Description
I've been trying to get some decent hummingbird shots for the past two weeks. I had good sun today, so it was my best chance to capture the iridescent feathers. This is my favorite so far.Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Great shot, this is a pretty unusual pose to capture

I've been trying to get some decent hummingbird pictures lately and it's been difficult getting the right amount of light. I'm curious, did you have to use any sort external flash to get this shot?

There was no flash - this is direct sunlight out in the open.

I'm just starting to get some decent ones myself. The only tip I have is to shoot many shots! I find it difficult to focus on them, both manual and auto since they are so small. The more shots, the better chance that one comes out (also the better chance at getting them moving)

yeah it's sure hard to catch them at a good moment! I'm always lucky to find one shot out of a day's worth that's even in good focus!

They often perch in my trees and on the branches of my feeder

That's very cool. I mean of course I knew that had to perch at some point haha I had just never see it myself.

I am sooooo jealous, I've been trying to get a shot that clear forever (or at least 3 months). Great shot anyway (lol), I had tons of sunshine today but the only lens I have with an aperature bigger than 3.5 is my 50 mil and I think the local hummer was a bit skitish of the camera

I have a few more from the past few days (a flight shot too). They are tough to get - so small to focus on and move so quickly.
