Well, I don't usually criticize photos! Anyway, this is a nice photo. Don't worry about the wings and tail not being in focus, but I think it's better that way because of the motion it shows. Hummingbirds are active! It doesn't seem right for them to be just sitting there. At least most people don't think so. They don't waste their energy buzzing 'round, but that's not important right now. It's nice how he's looking at the camera and giving it a stink-eye. It captures a nice personality! Nice poofed out feathers, too, like the wind's blowing on him. There's no background, but I think it's better that way because your eyes won't stray so much from the bird, and it brings out color more and better.

I love the use of color in this photo. Though the background is solid, the colors on the hummingbird and the branch make up for it. The angle of the shot is great; it catches the light coming off the bird's iridescent gorget and back, and also highlights the colors on its face and chest. The timing on this was awesome; I love how you were able to snap this picture right as it was looking at you. The branch the bird is perching on also adds to the character of this photo with all its knobs, twists and depressions. The focus on this photo could have been adjusted a little better, though. The wings and the tail came out blurred, and it takes away from the flash of rufous on the underside of the tail.

Thank you! I love them too, but I usually only get the one species (ruby-throat). It was a pleasure being able to photograph diversities in Costa Rica!

As you are probably aware we don't get them at all in the UK so it was a pleasure to see them let alone photograph them
