Val is a short little thing... just like me. According to some books I was looking through, the average human is 6.5-7 heads tall. I tend to just wing the proportions, which is not recommended.I was originally going to have explanations on each step, but I threw that out the window once I remembered that I had other people waiting on me to do more important things.

What size should the heads be?
I mean as in how many cm.
Or do you just draw the size you feel most comfortable with?

I guess it all depends with what you're trying to achieve. There's a difference between cartoony and realistic. Being of the cartoony persuasion, I'd say make the head the size you're comfortable with.

I tend to find "How to Draw..."s easier said than done. But that might just be me....

Following them, because most of the time they just show you how to draw that picture. No offense I mean, but I always seem to have trouble adapting a how to drawing into another pose or character.

No offense taken. I have the same problem, but as most pros will tell you (and me), "you have to learn how to see things in 3-D and then you can do anything you want with it."

Aw she is so cute! I adore her hair....something about your two characters that I really like. I don't like doing fanart (I need to work on my own characters enough as it is) but she seems like she'd be a blast to sketch...hmmmm

Yeah, I've got a bunch... but I rarely actually use them for educational purposes. Mostly just for reference. I should really start reading them properly! haha

Yeah, my ex girlfriend had a bunch of those how to draw manga books... some of them are entirely useless though.

its actually very standard practice to measure your characters by the height in heads. check out just about any book on doing cartooning or comics and they all basicly tell you to do that. its a good way to keep things proportional when doing perspective.
