Description
This is a painted watercolor Turtle, with some accents of pen. This piece is not my best work because it contained a bit more detail then I usually like to do, but that made it challenging and a good learning experience.

Your critique fair but clearly the points you are making with detail, shading, and depth were not intended to be in this piece otherwise I would have added them. My intent was to clearly have a colorful turtle which was abstact. Most abstract things are not meant to be perfect or look like portraits. But thanks for the critique

"Clearly the points you are making with detail, shading, and depth were not intended in this piece otherwise I would have added them."
That's not true at all, lots of people unintentionally leave out details or don't shade enough, etc. Saying that a lack of detail obviously means there wasn't supposed to be detail is completely false. In this piece, I see bits that look like shading on the shell and the bumps on the legs and head. Thus, it seemed clear to me that some shading and texture was intended. If this piece was nothing but bold colors with absolutely no shading, I wouldn't have mentioned shading. But I thought I saw shading and thought it could be improved, so I did mention it.
Also, plenty of abstract art has quite a bit of shading and detail, but I digress.
Of course, you know what you intended with this piece, and I'm not saying you should change it if you like it the way it is. I don't really like how you seem to think I just don't get it, so I'm just explaining where I was coming from here with this critique.

First let say thank you for putting a reference photo with your art work picture that you have done. After many looks at the photo I see that you put the exact shape and detail on the turtle. I like the fact that you use different colors on the turtle's skin and shell. I also like the fact that you made the turtle have a rainbow of colors on the shell and skin. To me you have shown me that you have the talent with water colors. Keep up the awesome work that you do. I thank you for asking me to critique this piece of art you have done.

I'm flabbergasted. Speechless. How? That's what I'd like to know. How could anybody possibly draw something as magnificent as that!? Shish. You're A-MAZE-ING.

I love your rendition! Β I have to tell you, though, that it's actually my watercolor pencil drawing you used as a reference! (I don't mind at all, being as you did very well at creating your own lovely artwork!) Β I used another photo as my own reference. Β
Anyway, very colorful and creative! Β

Wonderful painting.
I love how colorful the turtle is and the lighting on the shells looks so beautiful as well along with the shading.
Keep up the good work.

Thank you kindly! I find it more interesting to play with colors when painting things then real life portraits because its abstract and for one you would see certain things certain colors so to me it is more exciting

i couldn't agree more with you, i actually like real life portraits to be mostly of two or three main colors!

I love black and white portraits but i don't enjoy doing them. So no point of drawing something you don't enjoy right lol
