Description
From the 1966 film adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451.Admittedly, this one is probably a bit more esoteric and less immediately recognizable than most of my mashups. I've been stuck at home with a killer cold for the past few days, plowing through some of the older films in my DVD collection in an effort to stave off boredom and insanity. When I watched this film, it immediately smacked me in the face: Twilight's library in the show *IS* the old woman's library in the film.
(For those not familiar with the plot, in Fahrenheit 451, all books have been banned, and teams of Firemen routinely seek out hidden, private book collections and burn them. In this particular scene, they have raided the home of an old woman and ransacked her enormous library, tossing all of the books out onto a huge pile on the floor of the home. But rather than allowing the Firemen to set the books ablaze, the old woman lights them on fire herself, and remains with them as they burn, much to the horror of the onlooking Firemen. It is a pivotal moment in the development of the lead character of the film, a Fireman named Montag who decides to turn against the establishment.)
EXTREMELY IRONIC SIDEBAR: In 2006, the parents of a 15 year old girl in Montgomery County, Texas attempted to have the book Fahrenheit 451 removed from their daughter's high school library and reading list. They actually tried to ban a book about banning books.
I'm not making this up:

Thanks, man. I didn't figure that too many people would get this one, as compared to most of my previous stuff which is a tad more contemporary / mainstream.

Heh. There was just a split-second of film where both Montag and the Captain had the perfect expression of puzzlement and disbelief, and that was it.
