Description
This painting was requested by =Nesi , who wanted something visual inspired from his poem, In This Silence . His visual interpretation of this (what he asked of me) is slightly different from the finished product. Unfortunately, since the paint is still extremely wet, I'm having a hard time photographing it without some sort of glare. In a week or so I should be able to capture it much better, and then I'll offer it as a print if you so desire, Nesi. All of the imagery has specific metophorical meaning, as well as a certain connection to the poem itself. The only real divergence is the dying trees, instead of the decaying roses. For me, this seemed to suit a more interesting visual composition.
As the paint is still drying, I'm sure I'll make changes and refine a lot of the image, so constructive critiques are more than welcome.
Oil Paint on Canvas, 24 x 36 inches.
UPDATE: Much better digital photo taken... though there still is a bit of glare at the top, it's much more true to life. I'll take a few more in a week or so and see if I can't get a better shot.
UPDATE 2: Thank you to ssecret and spinegrinder for the DD. I wish I had taken a better photograph of this now, but it's already been sold. Thanks to everyone for their love and support.

Wow, this is crazy! It isn't often that you find such a wonderfully executed painting on dA with such impressive craftsmanship! I really like the red/orange atmosphere and the sharp contrast the checkered board appears in, and the tree branches keeps making me think that the bubbles will get popped any second. Great job! +fav!

The painting is based on the poem linked in the description, basically it's about the isolation and silence that seperates people, and the world around us which is seperate from the world we live in ourselves (the bubbles) ... Chessboard hints at a cerebral knowledge of this, but we still float above that realization.
But. I encourage any interpretation. Art is about the viewer connecting and making their own story! I love any story people come up with.

Chess boards are often part of surrealist works, and I like them [link]
they give a sense of spatial proportion and emphasise the idea of impending illusion... nice colours and i like the whirling clouds and the trees which come from them... which gives the impression of floating.

Thank you. Yes, chess boards or tiled floors are often incorporated into surrealist imagery. I think it also subtley represents the "mind"... we associate chess and checkers with strategy, it is an old game. So it seems dreamlike and cerebral at once
Thank you for the in-depth discussion I love talking about the meanings behind things. I'll check out your work

thanx for checking out my works
yes I like the strategy idea, i dont know about you but versing my brother at chess alot conjures up almost a bit of tension whenever i see a chess board... which is kind of an interesting surreal junxtaposition when put into a large open space or when put into another relatively open setting as you have, because open spaces are meant to be calming or the like...
cheers.

hah, I know what you mean, I see a chess set and it immediately fires up that part of my brain..
Take it easy
