Villainous motivation: has been upstaged by the Cooper Clan for generations, and wants to be the greatest thief/criminal ever.

It was this image of clockwork that made me buy sly when it came out. I saw in a magazine and knew I had to play it, and it became my favorite game series. I must thank you for uploading this.

Clockwerk's going to come back as his Past Self in Sly 5. He's been travelling through time and space with the Cooper Gang .

More speculation. He's just a very important villain, because you start it all with one villain and one hero and it usually ends that way. Everybody has their theories and writers and artists of the series take our ideas into consideration

And he makes cameos in Sly 4 which was never done before. Also there are Treasures in Thieves in Time (Clockwerk Eye and A Claw Foot) that hint upon his possible resurrection. But I'm just theorizing
