Description
"Little did you know, you were looking a wolf in the face."I've been wanting to draw this for awhile now, for my Deviant Id. Yes omg i actually drew a person! 8o Lol.
This is a drawing of myself, (first time drawing a portrait of myself.) and my wolf inner self.
My eyes are not quite that blue in real life, i made my eyes the same as the wolf's to show we are one in the same.
Now for the title. People way too often disregard those people who fade into the background.
But have you ever thought that there might be more than meets the eye?
Not saying that ppl have animals living inside them lol.
More like, dont underestimate ppl or disregard them.
Cuz maybe they're more than just background.
Also many other things that ppl just assume by how you look, and just overlook you.
Dont underestimate or overlook anyone. You never know who they may be. Or what they are capable of.
The wolf is symbolic of this.
Of an invisible, but very real strength inside.
I have only drawn 3 realistic portraits of ppl in my life besides this one. I usually dont have any desire to draw people. I chose to draw myself cuz im scared of drawing ppl i know. I dont want to offend them by drawing them crappy. Lol.
But upon seeing B-AGT's gallery, i was heavily inspired to draw people. Check out her gallery, its mind blowing. b-agt.deviantart.com/ O.O

This one is my favorite. Compositionally very sound. Too and also, the beauty of the technique is as soft and lovely as the faces rendered.

Oh wow thank you!! Really means a lot that you would visit my humble little page and comment.
Its a little embarrassing as my art is still in a very awkward stage.
But that you took a liking to this one is certainly encouraging.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

That's a very good expression you drew here.
It's disturbing to know my ears are so easily detached.
But no, a career in art isn't easy.

Thank you. I think?
Oh i know it isnt easy. ^^
I have since decided to go into animals for a career path,
however, i am still ambitious at getting much better art wise.
I have been offered money for some of my art.
I want to get better and whilst not a "career"
it will be a profitable hobby.
My art has already accomplished more than some people have thought
i would have gotten it to. And it just keeps getting better.

This is lovely, have you ever tried altering the contrast with software to give it more impact?
π: 0 β©: 1
mysteriouswhitewolf In reply to PhilipHarvey [2012-07-23 17:17:27 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much.
I use GIMP to edit my work to make it look more like the original
drawing when my scanner fails to do so. Thats it.
And while yes it would make it look better if i upped the contrast,
it would no longer look like the original drawing how i did it by hand. :/
And i dont want people to give me praise for something i didnt do.
If im not as good without additional contrast, it just means i need
to practice contrast more with my pencil, not an editing program.

PhilipHarvey In reply to mysteriouswhitewolf [2012-07-23 18:11:08 +0000 UTC]
I find scans look too light no matter how I draw, and I usually up contrast to match drawing in real life. Just wondered if you knew about contrasts with software. Having said all that its a fine piece of work! Well done!

Whats the technique for the hair? yours is perfect, you got the details of it flowing in different directions and everything in there !! Is it a darkness to lightness thing?
π: 0 β©: 1
mysteriouswhitewolf In reply to MREVOVIII [2012-03-05 21:36:28 +0000 UTC]
Really ? I thought i made the hair look flat. Haha.
Um all i did was make 'contrast'
By making the darkest darks as dark as i could,
and using my eraser to add 'shine' or highlights in
areas that were lighter.
Also using medium pressure on the pencil for making
individual (lines) strands of hair going in its proper direction.
The basic theme here is that when you put something light next to something dark
it creates 'contrast' it draws attention and helps form
clean edges. Like how the darkness of the hair helps form
the clean edge and shape of the face.
Same concept used on the highlights of the hair.
Hope that helps.

Lol yeah. If you need help there is an artist named 'Lee Hammond' who has
a series of great books to help one draw and understand what they are looking at.
I'm sure you could find one of her art books at your local library.
Her instructions helped me alot.
I highly encourage everyone i talk to who
has any trouble's to check her books out.

Was it your intention to make your eyes look the same as the wolfΒ΄s?
This idea reminds me strongly of Suzie TempletonΒ΄s Peter and the Wolf......PeterΒ΄s eye color is the same icy blue as the eyes of the wolf!
π: 0 β©: 2
mysteriouswhitewolf In reply to ArcticIceWolf [2011-12-09 01:50:54 +0000 UTC]
Yes, because as they say "the eye is the window to the soul."
I did that to show that we are the same soul.
