Second comment for me: I've always preferred the slower, almost natural speeds, for one major reason; it allows time to develop characters. In my case, they're not usually happy with the expansion/growth, but they are willing to try to understand that it's happening, even when they don't know why.
I should note that this essay is well written, and well thought out.

Yes, that is definitely an advantage, but I've seen great writers write short stories that do characters really, really well, despite the short length.

Great, now when I finally get around to writing a BE story I'll be overstressing myself worrying if I'm doing it for the right reasons

haha, trust me, its an internal battle for me when I write sometimes as well.
writing can be a naturally stressful thing, of course, but you should focus on making it fun for you while it write than worrying about it all the time. Its just how I see it anyways
And most of the times, stories can be worth the stress when all is said and done, so there's that too.

The thing is, I like to write not only because it's fun to express myself and get my fantasies out there, but I also know there's a small part of it that's just me trying to prove to myself and everyone around me that I can actually do it. I want to feel proud of myself and I want others to be proud of me. And believe me, I know that's not a good reason to do anything artistically. If you're not doing it from the heart, it's not going to be very good art. But I can't help myself. And even though it's just a small part of it, I overthink it to the point to where it becomes the forefront of my thoughts on the subject.
Anyways, I've been rambling on too much. I'll try to forget about all my anxieties and just write, because doing something is better than doing nothing.

I kinda like the seperation created here. Though instant growth works when happening in the morning/over night, it usually still gives my brain the impression of a bad story. Embarassed to say that Masked Man's drink and the next three stories I planned on writing feature the third type, though I'm actively looking into the second.

Hmm, I suppose most of my stuff falls under fast, the ten minute mark more or less. Though I do try to get into maybe too much detail on the growth at times... Though in any event, I so agree with your closing statement. I admit, I generally write most of my stuff with myself first and foremost in mind. If I do end up with an audience that likes it, that's just icing on the cake.

Getting into descriptions is never a bad thing. Detail is very important in expansion stories. It'd be hollow without them, really.

Very nice descriptions. I usually like working somewhere between moderate or fast growth myself. I really like doing something that builds up to a crescendo, like it starts off with them growing a cup size every twenty minutes or so, but then the expansion kicks into overdrive and they start really plumping up fast.

That is an extremely fun one that I enjoy writing as well. Build up is key in a good suspenseful BE story, at least in my opinion anyways.

Oh definitely. I don't really do much of the 'instant' expansion but it's definitely fun, more for roleplays I think where you can get a big reaction or something.

Instant expansion is very tricky, so I take the "short bursts" method whenever I do it. Otherwise I pretty much avoid it, unless its over night, which I used to disdain, but now I love, if it is used right and the character has the appropriate reactions.

Overnight expansion is something interesting as well, I don't think I've really delved into that. I think for instant expansion, I'd still need it to take place over five or ten minutes for my own pacing sake. Heh, my early stories I feel like I would have been more comfortable doing something that quick, and now I consider a ten-page story 'short', when that was unheard of years ago. So an instant expansion for me would still be drawn-out and detailed, which is good I suppose.
