Description I know these guys are already in my gallery, but since I had a few minutes I figured I'd go ahead and submit this photo taken by the new owner of them. Jill [link] does MUCH better at the photography thing than I ever did, and Makes my work look so much better than it did with my 1.3 megapixel. Hopefully I'll have better luck now with the better camera, but my chances of taken new pics of these guys are alas, gone.

As current graduating college student at The Art Institute of Dallas, I'm working on a character piece for my 3D modeling portfolio.

I was wondering if I could use your concept piece and create a 3D model from it?

I will make sure to state your name in the final result and give you credit for the concept.

Yeah that's where the name came from. The first one I did someone said it looked like a cross between Star Wars and The Dark Crystal, hence the name Star Crystal Series.

As to techniques or info on sculpting I have a rather intensive tutorial online for free. Check it out here: [link]

Well it was the best way to do it in my opinion. Purely selfish reasons really. I had so many people asking how I did this or that, and to give them tips or techniques on sculpting, that this ended up being a lot easier in the long run. It's hard to explain things through words, and the photos tell a lot more than words ever could. It both gave me the ability to tell others much easier on my part (send them the link to the tutorial) and gives a much better explanation of how I do what I do. Glad you found it informative!

I love the detailing you got into this piece: the feathers and the tatoo on the beast's shoulder, and the canteen. You have a wonderful sense of balance, too. Excellent work.

Aw thanks, they are my favorites as well. Hopefully I will be able to make more along this line soon, once I have a bit of time to actually do something creative!

Yeah, the trees themselves take no time at all, the beading is what makes me wonky. LOL

sevenwillow In reply to mysticalis [2005-08-26 15:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Man I guess! I don't think I would have the patience to make a piece like your trees, spend so much time beading them and then sell it on eBay for far lower than it is worth. Just the time alone is worth much more, not to mention the subject matter and the way you execute it.....I can make pieces like that for myself but again to sell them is another matter altogether!
