okay, now you're just showing off

(btw- another good name place is [link] you can search by keyword and i have fun trolling for names for my dolls to suit their personality. even if they don't yet have as much in the personality dept as your figures )

oh, and you really need to include dimentions in the description!

Yup. Bwahahaha! Sorry back to serious.

Thanks for the names link. Always nice to have another place to gain inspiration from.

Dang, I keep meaning to put the dimensions up but keep forgetting. Alzheimers "R" us. This one was about 10 inches I think. Most of my work, although not all has been anywhere from 9-13 inches. I'd like to work smaller, but I can't see that damn good. Need to get back to the eye doc.

Oh my - this has got to be one of my favourites of yours, definitely...though I think a certain fascination with puppets might have something to do with it. And PIGWARD! Where do you come up with these things??? (P.s. that wasnt a serious question unless you really do have an answer - I know I for one hate when people ask about inspiration).

Actually I spend just about as much time thinking up names as I do sculpting them. Well almost. I did find several "tools" to help, like the elvish name generator, it has all Tolkein elf names, but if you look at some of the different parts of the names and switch them around a bit, add, subtract or substitute letters you can get a lot of original stuff out of it. I also dig through baby names websites, and mix that up a bit too. This one's name is actually Figward, but coming up with his name was kind of serendipitous because I had uploaded a work in progress photo of him to an email list I am on, uncostumed. Some smart assed individual took the image into a photo editor and put a fig leaf over his um, neutered parts. He's not anatomically correct. Anyway the fig leaf kind of gave me the idea for his name. A lot easier than most of them.

I've actually been thinking about doing some marrionettes at some point. Not small ones like this one, but larger ones that can atcually be used, although she was functional.

Oops! I misread this as Pigward! But Figward is just as awesome a name...hehehe I like how you came up with it - I always have a hard time coming up with names in my writing. Spent AGES on a random name generator last week, trying to find something good, and then Israel Crouch came up - how cool is that?

You should definitely do some marionettes - that would be amazing. Would they by polymer clay as usual or something else? Oh if I have money by the time they're done, knowing how awesome they would be, I'd have to have one I'd HAVE to.

If they were going to be actually used, polymer probably wouldn't be the best material to make them out of. The biggest drawback of polymer is the fact that it is so easy to break. I'd think depending on the size, either a styrofoam or aluminum foil core with apoxy sculpt would be the most durable. Of course I have no idea how big a marrionette is supposed to be. I guess I should look into that!

Ah, well I know little to nothing about sculpting so I wouldn't know. However, I have a marionette of a farmer, which is about 15, 16 inches tall, and that seems about right...I don't think the size matters so much as making sure the strings are long enough to manipulate it comfortably.

Thanks for that info. I'll keep that in mind. Would you hole them out at arms level or down a bit as far as string length goes?

I would say maybe a couple inches under arms level...arm's level might be a little too constricting, and also, puppeteers generally crouch behind their set and hold their arms UP, so standing that would be slightly under arms level.

Ah cool. Thanks, and I'll post anything I might get finished in this genre.
