I think I rarely had Marle in the party when it came to navigating the factory.

Interesting that you left Lucca behind to open the door once the power comes on.
Most players, including myself, leave Marle behind at this point because Lucca's "Fire Whirl" dual tech with Crono is much more useful in dealing with the factory robots. (And then Marle redeems herself by being much more useful than Robo in that cave where all the monsters are only weak to magic instead of physical attacks.)
