Cheerilee is an earth pony, so she cannot teach any kind of magic. Twilight knows that the fillies look up to her because she is a princess, but she doesn't see herself as a teacher.

I'm not saying this 'cause I think Cheerilee is bad teacher. I'm saying this because I have noticed that I don't learn so much from school these days. I think it's easier to learn something outside of school (This is just my OWN opinion). And because Twilight teaches them subjects that they really do like and what they want to learn. Learning is lot easier if you really like the subject.
For example: I hate Swedish lessons and my number on it was 5 (on a scale of one to ten) But I like math (Say whaaat?) and my number was 9... it was 9 at first grade, it was 9 when I left high-school
