Cherilee is an kindergarten/elementary school teacher, and Twilight would probably work better as a passionate College lecturer.

Twilight would probably stink as a teacher of basic knowledge because she's so smart and is so interested in complex stuff that she wouldn't be able to stop herself going off on tangents about advanced concepts and theories that would just confuse the Crusaders.
In a very real way, Cheerilee and Twilight are teaching the Crusaders very different things for very different outcomes. Cheerilee teaches the general education that you need to survive adult life. Twilight is teaching them specific vocational skills to help them find and develop their natural talents, specific and specialised training.

Twilight has a huge advantage with her smaller class size. She was willing to try to teach the huge horde, but I'm not sure it would work.
Another comparison -- I thought the flower the CMC put on Twilight looked much like one of Cherilee's.

Adorable! I think while they are still so young Cheerilee as she is very good with children and Twilight would be better when they get older.

Also, I think Cheerilee and Twilight are both good on different sides : Cheerilee is a kind teacher, who's great for general teaching, which is important, and Twilight can be a good mentor when it comes for the CMC to learn about their special abilities .

Zecora. Which proves she is able to teach effectively, whereas Twilight has never been seen teaching anything effectively. There's a difference between knowing the material and being able to teach it.
Applebloom should get her knowledge from the source, Zecora, rather than second-hoof, Twilight.

Given that Twilight's teachings seems to have very little to do with most of their talents, the rate of magical disasters caused by both Twilight AND the CMC's & Twilight's inexperience... yah, Cheerilee hands down.

You really have to look at it like this:
Cheerilee is a teacher by talent, but she has a classroom full of kids to teach meaning that each student gets less individual time to be helped with whatever they may be struggling with.
Twilight on the other hoof, from what this episode shows, is able to nurture the individual talents of the CMC that they appear to have an affinity for.
Cheerilee is giving the CMC a more general knowledge base that every pony would need to be accepted in normal society, while Twilight is giving more advanced lessons in order to help sharpen their skills towards becoming more productive individuals in society.
By this I would say that Twilight is the better teacher, but not by much because both sides are necessary for the CMC.
