Drawing Ruby Gloom is hard especially since I am out of practice. But this morning I had ideas for a new style of drawing Ruby and her friends. So I spent the day doodling this line up. Pretty rough stuff so may move to Scraps later.

Since the last time I did anything remotely Ruby Gloom related, I came up with some headcanons which I've been meaning to use for some stories but never got round to it.

Along time a go there was a great war simular to the Mushroom War from Adventure Time and The Great War from Fallout. It was international governments who started to realise magic was real and since they had no control over it, feared it could break control they have over everything. After encourging more modern versions of witch trials and superstitous fears lead to a great war between science and magic.

One battle in particular during the war was a wizard fighting a demon. Because it was Halloween at the time, dark magic was so powerful it ravage the land (such as the summoning of the undead). Eventually the wizard defeated the demon and sealed it into it's own weapon. The locals hid the weapon somewhere in hopes for the demon never to rise again but the land was forever cursed with eternal halloween, thus the town of Gloomsville was founded there.
After the world war there were survivors but over time mutation force them to evolve with various deformaties.

Now, let me reintroduce you to the characters.

Ruby Gloom (whom perhaps I gave too much behind, new style I am experimenting with) is the mistress of one of the two major mansions in Gloomsville. The mansion is actually owned by her parents. Her father was a pirate until he met the love of his life a nurse who showed good in him (Think Captain Jack Sparrow and Florence Nightgale) and explore the new world togther. Ruby Gloom is waiting for her parents to return from there adventures. Being a red head albino, genetic wise ruby is close to original human while most decendants of the war have various mutations.

Iris is the daughter of Ruby's fathers best friend and first mate. Like Ruby she is waiting for their parents to return home. Iris is of course is a cyclops but the reasons for this isn't exactly known. Cyclopia is an actual birth defect that can make babies unfit to live, but due to the fallout of the war cyclopia could of adapted to Iris bloodline. It is either that or she is a decendant of genuine greek cyclops. (I've yet to decide if her father is also a cyclops or merely a human who wears an eye-patch. But I prefer the idea she is a decendant of greek cyclops.)

Misery Melancholy Misery is well versed in the history of her family such as her ancestors and take pride being a daughter of such a prestigious family that dates back before the war. But whats brings her the most misery is the fact that her father is dead and she has no knowledge of the whereabouts or status of her mother. Her legal guardian is actually her aunt Morose but she was permited to stay with Ruby because she is the only one who can endure the misfortune as wll as it be safe to have less Melancholys in a single place. she later finds a talking sword which leads to my OC Omen.

Jealousy was not in the original cartoon, but she was in mhsu.deviantart.com/art/Ruby-G… . Jealousy is the mistress of the other major mansion on the opposite side of Gloomsville. She is a collector of various things which makes her home more like a museum (treasures and stuffed animals) but all she has for company is a pink rabbit which tried to rob her one time but decided to stay. When it comes to Ruby Gloom and her friends she can be a right bitch thinking she is better than them. Despite this attitude, Ruby Gloom still offers friendship because she knows deep down she is alone. Jealousy also has a skin condition of various warts on her face, which is a world full of freaky people isn't really as ugly as it seems.

SkullBoy Like before SkullBoy doesn't know who he is. But he recently found out a dark truth that may explain what he is. Sometimes fallen soldiers and other dead were "reanimated" by dark and bad magic in order to continue fighting as undead pawns. After the war the wandering undead eventually became less mindless and more consciences, however they could not recall lives before their deaths, not only that but other corpses were being reanimated with amnesia as well despite the war being history. SkullBoy could of been one of those undead.

Frank & Len In the episode Frank & Len Unplugged it shows that there are surgical stitches right down the middle of their shared body and had these scars since infants. Was this a cruel act of science? I believe that they were born mutants which is still common in this post-war world. However they were born with birth-defects of missing an arm, leg and various organs they needed to live. To save their lives they were grafted together in order to share their needed organs. As for how they ended up at Runy's residence I do not know. But I did try to give Len a sort of stoner look.

Scaredy Bat Nothings really changed about him. Still pretty much omniphobic.

BooBoo is a haunting ghost under guidance by Mr. White and Mr. White. But we don't know much of this mafia like unlife he lives. My ideas is that when someone who lives an unfufilling life dies a sspirits they go to a town or city located somewhere in purgatory. Here they seek employment not for money but for reputation that can lead them to Paradice or send them to Inferno. BooBoo doesn't realise the "Family" is not the kind of reputation he wants but due to his playful yet innocent nature believes being a haunting ghost may do him the good he needs to pass onto Paradice.

Poe was once Ruby's father's "parrot" but retired. Despite being a bird he was charged legal guardian to Ruby and Iris until they return. Believing himself unable to do so alone he asked his brothers Edgar and Allen to company him.

Rabbit is to Jealousy as Doom Kitty is to Ruby Gloom. Although he can talk and has a surly attitude.

Omen (originally but no longer named after me) is my OC and the anomaly of the friends. While playing hide and seek with her friends, Misery accidentally broke into the locked mausoleum at the mansions cemetary. Here she found a talking sword. The two befriended each other and eventually the sword was introduced to Misery's friends. The sword claimed to be a survivor of the great war that lead to the new dark age and was trapped long a go. For awhile Omen served no more as a fancy talking ornament and occasionally a doorstop until the magic needed for Omens freedom was founded. SkullBoy was suspicious of the talking sword as he knew of the founding story of Glomsville and suspected him of being the demon. Omen merely states he is a prisoner and that completely at the mercy of there trust and in return shares what he knew about the undead. Eventually Omen was freed and instead of moving on from Gloomsville, accepted Ruby's offer to stay. Over time he adapted to his freedom and became rather close to Misery given she was the one that founded him, but his "abilities" have made him questionable, such as pyrokinesis and his ability to follow BooBoo to the ghost world. Eventually Misery found out that Omen was indeed the demon from the founding story. However from his account of the story, Misery trusted him. She encourages him that Ruby would still accept him as friend if he told them the truth but asks Misery to keep it a secret until he is ready.

What really happened that battle before Gloomsville was that Omen was fighting an evil wizard by the name Warlock. The wizard was not trying to protect the locals but instead wanted to destroy them and despite being a demon, attempted to defend the lives there, After the battle the people did not hide the sword out of fear but to honour the demon that tried to protect them. Over time the stort was passed down and truths were twisted.
