Description
He doesn't have a name yet, and we're hoping that we can get him weaned and keep him as healthy as he seems to be now. Mom and I don't think the picture truly shows how tiny he is~not much smaller than Tiny Tommy (RIP).digital camera

He WAS so cute, just adorable! At first, Mom and I were thinking, "Oh no! We have to take care of an unweaned kitten!" We knew we'd never be able to bear leaving him outdoors somewhere. We felt obligated to care for him. Within a couple of days, I was so in love with him. Mom said that, until he wouldn't eat and acted unlike his usual self, she hadn't realized how much she loved him.
I do have a lot of pictures of him, so that's a slight comfort. However, I look at them and start to cry. It might take a while before I get over that.

He was a wonderful little boy, so full of joy and fun though he did have his "Grumpy Cat" moments. Wow! Did he hate baths, even having his bottom washed! He had a VERY LOUD VOICE for such a tiny kitten!

He was beautiful, such a shame that he has only allowed to have such a short life

He really was an extraordinary little fellow. We watched him blossom in that brief time. When he arrived, he could only creep along, trembling as babies do. Within three days, he was up on all fours, beginning to explore his world. He was such a happy, loving boy. The older cats were starting to accept him; a couple even played with him (Pookie and Scotty). We knew that they cared about him because it was obvious they were searching for him for many days after his death.

At first, they all acted very aloof except for Pookie, who investigated our little visitor right away. Then, bit by bit, they started watching him, and Peachy and Honey Bear dined together. It wasn't until he was gone (when they were in the garage~their bedroom) and they came in the house that morning that, Mom said, they started wandering around the house, sniffing in corners, looking under everything. She knew they must be looking for the baby. This kept up for quite a while. So, they went from acting jealous to "Where's our kid brother?!"

Yes that animals do get used to each other, and, therefore, miss each other if there is a disappears

I'm still grieving over sweet Honey Bear. A month wasn't long enough! Of course, years wouldn't have been long enough either. I can't get over how deeply he affected me, perhaps because he was the final kitten we'll ever have. We didn't intend to add another cat; but, he was left on our doorstep. We simply couldn't turn him away.

I ma the same way about kittens. When we go to Petsmart Sue wants to look at the cats that Animal Rescue brings in. I can't, because the I want to bring them all home. I go look at the tropical fish instead.

He IS a beautiful boy. Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers.
We're just hoping that we'll be able to raise him to be a big, strong boy. It's so sad that the neighbor moved him from wherever he was found. I know he must miss his mother. Formula isn't exactly mother's milk, and a syringe is just not Mommy.

Indeed - and you're welcome.
I believe you have the faith and the strength to do so.
Yes, it's unfortunate that he was displaced... a sad thing.
But he did gain a new family - and a very caring one at that.
I think he's in great hands, and love will work both ways.

When he'd wake up crying during the night, I'd cup him in both hands and hold him so that his eyes met mine. Then, I'd kiss each ear, the top of his head, his nose then his tummy, making sure that I did the squint that means "I love you". I told him repeatedly, "I'm sorry you got taken from your mommy. But, now you have TWO mommies who will take care of you all of the time, and you have lots of brothers and sisters who will love you and play with you."
Yes, I know he couldn't possibly understand any of that, but we've always made sure that we talk to our pets often, as if they do know what we say. And, we give lots of hugs and kisses. (Weirdly, throughout the years, they DO seem to understand certain things!)
However, it's very difficult and very frightening at times to take care of a kitten who hasn't even been weened. Poor baby! He has to learn so much and to adapt to strange surroundings. So far, he's been a little trooper.

Thank you. I simply wrote the truth; it's what I do repeatedly to reassure him.
My heart goes out to this brave little boy who has been torn from his mother before she could wean him. That is a strong link to be broken so abruptly. I tell him often how he'd been in his mommy's body for a long time not very long ago; all he knows is her, that she was his world. Now, he has a loud, bright world filled with lots of new smells and sensations instead of his nest in brush next to a building. I just wanted to make sure he got through that initial shock. At his age, even as healthy as he seems, he could go into failure to thrive if he misses his mother too much. So, it's a relief that his survival instincts seem strong and that he seems to accept Mom and me as his new mommies. He's also been introduced to each of the cats though only Pookie Bear shows much interest in him.
This evening, I'm fairly certain that he pottied (No. 2) for the first time in the mini-litter box we fixed for him! Earlier today, when Mom was holding him, he "wet" on her, but she just laughed and handed him to me for tending. "Oh well, I meant to throw this in the wash!" she said of her house dress. The moment he did that, I was going to express my concern about whether he was having bodily functions. Well, that answered it! Later, after he had downed quite a lot of formula, I set him in the litter, and he sat there looking so thoughtful for a while. I wondered if he was thinking, "What IS this stuff she keeps putting me in?!" However, when I picked him up, I saw that he needed to be cleaned up. Hooray!
Every tiny thing is a big event when rescuing a very young kitten.
By the way: We're guessing that the Fourth of July could be his birthday since we'll never know exactly how old he is. Why not the Fourth?! That means that, by early January, he'll be ready for THE surgery though it could be earlier than that. We simply watch for the signs. Cuddles was so undersized that he matured late. Our Stormy came into season early and was so miserable! I held her throughout the night, knowing she could go to the vet in the morning; I rocked her and sang to her, getting her through the swells of pain and discomfort in her feverish little body.
So, who knows when this little guy will decide he's a grownup tomcat?

I hope for the best in the days and weeks ahead - for all of you.

Mom said this afternoon how amazing he is, how he's adapting and didn't even cry at all. He even ate for her without making a mess. We've let him explore the floor occasionally, and his muscles obviously are getting stronger. He even climbed out of his basket during the wee hours of the morning while I was up with him. So, he ended up in his basket in the bathtub, with a towel spread out, when I decided I could go to bed about 4 a.m. Mom said that, when she got up at 6 a.m., he was sound asleep.
He truly is a remarkable little boy!
I just wish we could find a name for him. We never had this much trouble before. Generally, not long after we see a kitten or cat, we have it named. He's being tricky!

Poor little guy - I wish the very best for him. I read your most recent post - how sad... I know that domesticated animals are always prone to getting small bugs and what not caught in their ears. I just hope that was only a "one time" thing; how terrible. Good luck at the vets when you take him - I'm sure they can help him with anything he needs.
My biggest kitty - Alice - had problems with wax and small mites in her ears, and we had to get hers completely flushed out. But after that, she hasn't had any serious problems at all.
Again, I hope things get better for you and your new baby - he sounds like a very strong little fellow, and full of love.

Thank goodness he came through this ordeal! There was only a slight ear infection, for which he'll take antibiotics for 10 days. They also dewormed him. He's been sleeping a lot. Maybe now that he doesn't have that monster in his ear, he'll be relaxed and do much better. He's already able to get up on his legs; it's only Sunday that he was jerkily moving around, struggling to use his legs. So, he's doing wonderful!

Well, he has two giant mommies to look after him day and night. Eventually, he'll have brothers and sisters to irritate; they're older, so I'm not sure if any of them will play with him till he's bigger. But, they'll probably snuggle. I can recall Sunny and Pookie "babysitting" Scotty occasionally.
I swear he's already acting spoiled!

Yes! When I pick him up to look into that face... *sigh*
I have a very low melting point when it comes to kittens OR cats!
I honestly never thought we would have another kitten in the house! One never knows what life has in store.
