Description This is an illustration I did for an exhibition at uni where the students taking part were from our uni and another in Japan. I thought there might be a trip to Japan involved. there was not.

They didn't really get it though anyway probably because the interpreter didn't get it, its a very english sort of thing to be going on, but they really liked the image. Basically its me when i was little saying I want to go to the Moon, but my mum isn't really listening and is moaning I'm not going to the moon til i finish my tea...or maybe it only makes sense to me! I kept to black and white, just because I hadn't done that for ages! The theme was Places and Spaces we'd never been, so I looked at obviously the Moon but also thinking of imagination and worlds in worlds and stuff. Like the woodlouse his world is within our world...and stuff

WAAAAAH I was just checking my account this morning, scrolled down and there it is on the Daily Deviations, how exciting!!

Thanks most of all to Sarah for suggesting it Go and check out her work! Do it now!

Thanks for faves of course, i'm so happy!

lol it was okay. my favourite childrens books were definately by jane potter ( i thnk that's her name). books like peter rabbit, they were just so simple and lovely. you should read the red tree, it's the most marvelous picture book, very beautiful and detailed, but somewhat surreal.

I really like this. Its England; rolly polly bugs, having a sulk, and crooked fencing, I feel a little home sick.

Love it love it love it love it

I read it more as if it were actually possible to get there, but Mum wouldn't let you (you can't go to your friend's house because you haven't called her / packed a toothbrush / told me in time / tidied your room)!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mystra-Inc In reply to Dkelabirath [2010-01-12 12:09:48 +0000 UTC]

hehe it is a bit like that yes, when you're a child you think everything is possible, and going to the moon is as easy as popping to the shops or going to your Nan's house!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dkelabirath In reply to Mystra-Inc [2010-01-12 12:11:25 +0000 UTC]

Yep, why don't the adults understand that you want to do it?

Rules can seem really unfair and arbitrary (although perhaps some parents don't take enough time to explain why the moon is too far away).

Thank you for this beautiful piece, and congratulations on your Daily Deviation

thank you it took ages to find a font that would work and then i changed it a bit too, i can't remember what it's called tho!

Now you're finished you can go to the Moon, but be back before 9 or you're grounded!!

vezeto In reply to Mystra-Inc [2010-01-12 10:44:11 +0000 UTC]

well i think you did a great job - the font looks perfect

how about this...how about i don't come back at 9, i just stay on the moon for the rest of my life so you can't ground me and i obviously survive on mystery moon cheese...yeah, think about that! hahaha

Yeah I've worked with limited colours before. It was really fun. In a way it was more difficult than using colours. Especially if you're not planning on using midtones. You have to know exactly where you want your darks and lights. It's tricky, but great.

I think it's because a lot of people can relate to it. Its such a simple and rather silly sentiment but we've all been told we're not going anywhere until after tea!

i like this very much and the big bugs give it a feeling of urgent threat or something very weird i can't seem to describe. tender and scary at the same time.

it also made me think of what the teacher (i think it's the teacher) says to the kids in Pink Floyd's The Wall:

"if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding... how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mystra-Inc In reply to pezbananadesign [2010-01-10 22:18:29 +0000 UTC]

thanks, i don't think anyone's ever seen it in such a way, really refreshing to hear someone interpreting it in a completely new way to even how i felt about it.

god, the Wall, amazing and terrifying stuff, i think it was the teacher that says that, i'll have to watch it again now!
