Part 2 – Day 41

“Come on, last set. I want to see those muscles!” you call.

Noticing that everyone but Mikasa is near dead of exhaustion, you pull your white, fitted top off and jump into a perfect push-up position. You place your non-dominant foot on top of your other ankle and place your dominant hand behind your back. You turn your head and look forward at the cadets. “I know you’re all tired, but if I can do the same amount as you all with half as many limbs, then you all can do it properly. Ready?”

A feeling of pride washes over you as a second wave of energy hits them all. “One.” Push down. Push Up. “Two.” Push down. Push Up… “Ten.” Push down. Push Up… And so on.

On the other side of the training field, Erwin and Levi watch the as cadets train. Squad leaders all bark orders at their team and the soldiers follow orders and sweats pour off them. The commander and corporal’s eyes fall upon you and your unit.

“Well, that’s certainly a new approach to it,” Erwin comments. “I don’t think we’ve had someone to get down and to the workout with the cadets lately. Perhaps it is for the better. What do you think, Levi?”

The man clucks his tongue. “I think it’s pathetic. The brat lowers herself to their level by working simultaneously.” Levi’s eyes roll over your moving body. “And to reveal herself like that in front of the cadets. It’s a distraction.”

Erwin chuckles and nudges Levi. “More for us than for the cadets though, no?”

Levi rolls his eyes and begins to storm over you to and your group.

“Last one, guys. I want to see flat backsides, strong arms, and head up. If I were to come and sit on anyone of you, you should be able to hold your stance.” Push down. Push Up. “And fifty!”

You place your hand and foot back on the dusty ground and jump onto your feet. “Well done.” You dust off your hands and wait for everyone else to stand.

As they all rise to their feet, someone approaches you from behind. Spinning on the ball of your foot, you come face-to-face with Corporal Levi.

“Hello Corporal Levi. What brings you here today?” you inquire, placing your hands on your hips.

“Your teaching methods are pitiful, (Y/n). They would be better off without your… help.”

You brush his words off; they have no meaning to you. “I don’t see you training any group, Corporal. Why is that?”

Levi sighs. “I do not have the time nor want to babysit these brats.”

You hear your group groan at the comment. This must stop, you told yourself.

“Well, Corporal, I don’t suppose you have time for me? How about we spar – I’m sure the cadets will learn better watching Humanity’s Strongest than just carrying out drills with me.”

Little did you know that the entire training grounds had fallen quiet, awaiting Levi’s response to your request.

“Very well.” Levi unbuttons his jacket and tosses it at your group. The unfortunate Armin catches the fabric.

“Drop it in the dust and you’re dead, Blondie.”

        Armin squeaks and nods.

Levi then cracks his neck and finds his ready stance, feet firmly planted on the ground.

You smile and fall into your stance as well.

The two of you circle around each other slowly as a crowd consisting of everyone on the training grounds.

Finally, Levi makes his move. He lunges at you, but you quickly block it with a swift knee to the gut. He moves back, no sign of pain on his face. The fight progresses and you both threw some kicks and punches and blocked other movements.

Suddenly, Levi seems to loose his patience and it all happens so fast; he sends a wave of punches and kicks at you, barely giving you time to regroup and block properly. You step on a small rock and loose your balance, giving Levi the opportunity to swipe under your feet. You land hard on the ground, but manage to snag Levi’s shirt, pulling him down with you. His hands land next to your head, tangled in your hair.

He looks into your eyes and smirks the slightest bit.

You smirk back. And begin to lick his arm.

With Levi utterly confused, you wrap your legs around his waist and contort your body in such a way that Levi falls flat on his back with you on top. You place one fist on his abdomen, and push your forearm to his neck.

Breathing heavily, you smile victoriously and stand up. You offer Levi a hand to get up, but he refuses, standing up on his own. You shrug and address the crowd. “When you are in close-combat and weaponless, you must use whatever you can to survive. Even it includes playing dirty. Any questions?”

A cadet raises a hand. “How’d you know that’d surprise him?”

“The element of surprise is very important. By acting repulsively, you find that your mind can come up with things you would not have had this been a normal, organized drill.” You sigh. “I was also a forced sex-slave for eight years. Cooperation is one of the best techniques you can use.” You clap your hands. “Alright then, I do believe training is dismissed and lunch is ready.”

Day 46

Levi paced around in his office until he became dizzy and had to sit down. He was deep in thought, so deep that he didn’t hear you knock at the door until the last tap.

Groaning slightly, Levi spat, “State name and business.”

        “(Y/n) (L/n), sir.”

        Another groan. “Business?”

You simply open the door and stroll in. You place a cup of herbal tea in front of Levi and a small cookie next to it and then proceed to the window.

“Levi, do you think that these Titans are a punishment for destroying the earth?”

He takes a sip of the brew, expecting it to be awful, but found it surprisingly tasty. “No Corporal bullshit when we’re alone, (Y/n).”

“Oh, trust me, I wasn’t going to use formalities. But I did ask you a question. I do want an answer.”

Levi huffs, stands from his seat, grabs the cookie, walks over next to you, and gazes out of the window as well. “And who would order such a punishment?”

“I’ve read books about religions with gods and goddesses. There is one story that the goddess of Earth, Gaea, has children with the god of Hell, Tartarus, and the outcome is an army of abnormally strong… creatures. They were called Titans. You can’t help but think that maybe theses stories are true – these Titans do resemble the ones that threaten Humanity now.”

Levi takes a bite of the cookie and places the remaining sweet on his desk. He crosses his arms and leans against the wall. “This is what you bothered me with?”

You roll your eyes. “No, that’s not all, actually.”

As fast as you can, you spin and push Levi against the wall. He struggles slightly to move from your grip, but his strength fails him. “You drugged my food!” he exclaims.

“Not completely. Only slightly. Just enough for your muscles to relax so I can get my point across easily.” You put Levi in the same position from the brawl a few days prior; forearm at his neck and opposite hand bracing his abdomen. “You will not make an example of me like you do the cadets here. Don’t you dare fuck with me, Levi. You’ll land on your arse so fast, you won’t even know what happened you. Do I make myself clear?”

“You bitch,” he replies. “And if I tell Erwin about this… little incident?”

“Oh, don’t worry. I’ve taken care of that already.” You turn your neck slightly, revealing bruises around your neck. “If anyone asks, I was only defending my, poor, little self.”

“You’re fucking crazy. Those weren’t there this morning.”

“I know. I put them there this morning. It’s called planning.” You take a small breath. “And, no, Levi, I’m not crazy. I’m just sick of seeing the people I love die. Unlike you, I’m going to do something about it. The cadets will continue to train under my control. I know what I’m doing.”

You release Levi and saunter out of his office, shutting the door behind you and buttoning your top all the way up.

Levi picks himself up and moves some papers away from his desk, still weak from the drug in the cookie. His fingers dance across the cover of the worn book.

If only you knew what he was thinking about before you walked in and began to throw threats. Levi traces the title of the book.

Greek Mythology: Volume 3; The Titans.
