Familiar Dragon Information

History: During a particularly prolonged magical war, many magic users tried to create weapons out of various monsters and dragons. The Familiar Dragon was the end result of a failed experiment. The goal was to make a vicious killing machine with high levels of psychokinetic powers. The Familiar Dragon didn’t fit the bill. Its slight build and timid quiet nature made it ill effective against the enemy. Instead it was discovered this highly intelligent dragon, was perfectly suited for tactical problem solving, memorization and overall brilliance. They are now a common sight, usually in the company of scholars and accomplished magic users. These dragons will only partner with people who can challenge their vast intellect.

Size: Familiar Dragons on average are no longer than 6 to 7 feet, half of that being tail.

Diet: Carnivore. Unlike many other species of dragon this creature will only eat meat and will turn its nose up at anything else.

Coloration and Markings: The Familiar Dragon comes in wide array of colors, markings and patterns. The unusual gemstone looking structures are actually bony outcroppings that grow as the creature ages. Once they get to a certain size they detach from the main bone they formed from and turn into orbiting fixtures around the dragons head and tail. They glow with psychic energy and its said they enhance the dragons natural psychic ability.

Intelligence: Familiar Dragons are among the smartest creatures in existence. They are amazing at almost any field of study they put their minds too. Because of this considered a status symbol of a Familiar Dragon actually takes he time to converse with you or even, work with you. It has been rumored that a very renowned headmaster at a particularly prestigious school, lets his Familiar Dragon run things for the most part.

Behavior: Familiar Dragons enjoy study, the arts, song and music. They at times may seem antisocial as they spend a great deal of time in study or problem solving. Usually a Familiar Dragon will only mate one or two times in its life. Usually because they have some long term project they are working on and its too much of a bother to find a suitable mate.

Magic: Familiar Dragons possess powerful psychic magic. Though they do not possess the magical ability to fly, they are seldom seen on the ground, and usually slither through the air or float gracefully. They use their unique psychic powers to levitate themselves. Familiar dragons also lack vocal cords and their physical vocalizations is akin to a cats purr or a soft trilling. They however can easily communicate telepathicly, speaking directly into someones mind.
