Description
I felt like attempting a landscape digital painting this time around since I haven't really given one a try yet. I have a love for nature documentaries(That's probably one reason why I love taking real animals and combining them with dragons...) and while I was watching one I got an idea of having a "flathead catfish" dragon with a background of the Tombigbee River. I have fond memories of that river. I practically grew up on it. I added in some ravens that are chasing the dragon. I've seen smaller birds do that to larger predators so I thought it would add more movement in it.Flathead catfish are not easy to paint! Those fish have tons of dappling and spots on their skin. I'm just thankful they don't have scales LOL! I've gotten accustomed to making my own brushes for whatever texture I need so I'm not stippling the whole thing one at a time! Now that would be ridiculous! My hand would hate me if I did that.... Thankfully I've learned a lot while studying other artists' work here on deviantart. It makes my job so much easier....
As for the wings...I do realize that most of my dragons have smaller wings than they really should so I wanted to go for more realism this time around. This is something I'm going to bear in mind when I paint more dragons in the future...
