For me it's totally been worth it, because my friend runs a private server that I go on constantly. Also, it's strangely very addicting, which is why I've made so many pixel art statues. Offline Minecraft is also fun, but if you want to buy it, you may want to find a server, public or private, that you can go on in order to experience multiplayer. The game also updates consistently, so often there will be a new feel to the game. Buying the game now also gives us the full version when it is released later this fall/winter. When the full version is released, it will cost much more than what the game currently costs, so if you do want to buy it, you should probably buy it soon, or at least in the next few months.

Yes it's called Minecraft Classic and it's free. Not too good anymore compared to what Minecraft is now, but its still a good starting point if you're unsure if you want to buy the game or not.
