Description So I've gotten requests on teaching people how I draw... this is the best way I could think of because I don't want to sit and explain it over and over again.
This is my first tutorial... I hope it came out well
This is the first of, I believe, 3 tutorials that I have in the works.

The Intuos2 picture is my hand and my tablet. The plastic sheet top can be lifted and an image inserted. NO I'M NOT TRACING THE PICTURE!

These will show you that it pays to do your research before you buy a tablet.

There is no screen on the tablet, not mine at least. The ones with screens are quite expensive. You're watching your computer monitor as you're drawing.

Nice tutorial!

But I don't get that first tablet picture. Is the picture from the pc onto your tablet or is it just a picture not from the pc. And which is better; graphire or intuos?

Nabikchan In reply to angel-princess-red [2006-12-13 07:12:49 +0000 UTC]

The first picture is my tablet with a printed picture put under the clear plastic. Not tracing, but it was for decoration, it's changed since.
I've yet to use a Graphire, I'm sure to most artists, they'd be about the same. At the time I bought my Intuos, I did so because the stylus that it came with had a functional eraser end unlike if I bought a Graphire. The stylus isn't cheap either, I could have gotten one for a Graphire but the price would have been about the same, considering the stylus' usually cost between $50-$75.

Oh okay. Thanks for the information. I'm getting one soon, I think the brand is Wacom Graphire 4. Does the stylus have pen nibs for wacom tablets? If so, how much would they cost?

Hrm.... I know my Intuos one came with 5 replacement tips... Honestly I don't know about the Graphires sorry. I'm not sure I know anyone off the top of my head that has a Graphire... maybe one of my DA friends but I'm not sure right now

Hey there thanks so much for this. I suck at digital art and was looking to see if I could get some practice in to maybe acomplish SOMETHING with it. this gave a lot of very good information for me, I really appreciate you posting this, and I think I may be purchasing a tablet like yours when I get my next paycheck =^_^=. Couple questions, though, what is the difference between the intuos and the graphire? also, is it hard trying to figure out where you are on the screen when you can't see the image right in front of you? That's the one thing that has kept me from a teblet over the past years--it would drive me nuts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nabikchan In reply to hoshizoraaona [2006-10-07 22:36:34 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I've never actually used a Graphire. The reason I bought an Intuos when I did was because the one I was looking at didn't have the eraser end of the stylus and to buy one for it, it was $70 extra so I figured might as well put that toward the higher tablet.

The Intuos has more points of pressure as in it probably has more of a range between how soft and how hard you press, seeing as the softer or harder you push the lighter/smaller or darker/thicker the lines will be.

It took me a few months of playing with my tablet in order for me to get used to using it. The drawing area typically maps to the screen IE if you have your stylus on the top left of the square, your cursor will be in the top left of your screen. You will see the image right in front of you, you'll learn to coordinate your hand as you're watching your computer monitor.

I hope I've been a little more help, I'm sorry it took me a few days to respond to you.

yes that is what I though. I guess the only way to avoid that is to get a lappy with a tablet screen. lol. but perhaps it's worth it. Thanks again, it's helped! =^_^=

Sayuri-Amaya [2006-04-11 22:44:46 +0000 UTC]

Nice tutorial; ish very cool. *^_^* I don't have a tablet. >_< My sister would probably do very well with one since she's been drawing Sonic charas for more than 10 years, and she's used to drawing a lot. I dun draw a whole lot.

My sister uses PaintShop Pro X for her artwork (only b/c my parents refused to buy her PhotoShop.) But, I've used PSP and PS before, and I like PS better. ^^ However, I use GIMP for my artwork, since her version of PSP won't run on this computer at the house. But, I do find it easier for me to airbrush on GIMP than on PSP..so my sister sometimes has me airbrush her pics for her. XD Ah, I'll need to send my sis a link to show her this tutorial, ish very helpful. *^_^*

Kayla-Nekoyasha [2006-04-10 21:41:41 +0000 UTC]

I wish my tablet worked like yours does. I have Wacom Graphire 4... which I don't think has the screen to show what you're drawing. I got Photoshop for free... yeah, I'm illegal, I know. I still mainly use PSP though. There's not that much of a difference (exept that PSP seems to mess up more)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nabikchan In reply to Kayla-Nekoyasha [2006-04-10 21:43:37 +0000 UTC]

What do you mean the screen to show what you're doing?.
I don't care for PSP because its layer system was harder for me to understand... Its been so many years since I messed with it though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kayla-Nekoyasha In reply to Nabikchan [2006-04-10 21:51:46 +0000 UTC]

I meant the screen by, like, it's like you're drawing on paper, where you can look down to see what you draw. But with mine, you have to constantly look at the screen to see what you made with your pen stroke.
