Description
Zuzu: "Foolish" - Swahili (?)The Prideland's Majordomo
Voice Actor: Julie Andrews
-----
Zuzu can be a bit annoying at times to the royal family (and Uru when she was a cub), but she only wants to help, and tries to do her utmost best at every task. She originally served King Mohatu and now serves his son King Ahadi. Her son Zazu will later serve King Mufasa and King Simba.
----
And (finally) here is Zuzu's ref sheet!
Believe it or not, I really couldn't draw hornbills for the life of me when I started "Betrothed". But when it came time to draw Zuzu, she just sort of... came out just right.

Yeah... Maybe her parents didn't see much potential in her.

Uh.. actually, no. Zuzu was created/named by the author of Disney-released TLK spin-off books TLK: Six New Adventures. (we both know that the reason he chose her name was because it was phonetically and literally close to "Zazu".

Yep! I always heard Julie Andrews' voice when I wrote her dialogue, so I figured I might as well include that info in her bio.
Thanks!

Thanks!
Yes, she is. Semi-canon anyway - meaning she appeared in TLK merchandise, but not any of the films. And yes, she is Zazu's mom.

No prob.
Well... the "merchandise" I mentioned is actually a set of books called "The Lion King: Six New Adventures" that came out in '94 just after the movie was released. Zuzu was mentioned in several of the books, but there was only one very small picture of her (that looked like my version of Zuzu mostly). The books are out of print, but you can read them online if you do a search. The picture of Zuzu can be found in the book "A Tale of Two Brothers".

It's okay. Yeah, if you just type "A Tale of Two Brothers" and keywords like "read, online, pdf" you should be able to find it.

Who's a pretty birdie, then?
Despite her rather controversial name, your Zuzu is simply delish! She has all the elements of Mary Poppins, Maria von Trapp (The Sound of Music) Princess Mia's 'Grandmere' (The Princess Diaries 1 & 2) and Queen Lilian (Shrek 2) about her -- loyal and sweet, but also very dignified, too!
I have rather enjoyed Zuzu's company, throughout the pages of Betrothed! I'm so very glad that Zazu had such a fine mother! (How I would love to meet this wonderful hornbill's husband, Zamir! I can only imagine that he is every bit as wonderful, as his wife and son! )
I look forward to seeing Dame Julie's Zuzu, once again...

Zuzu!!!
Thanks! I thought maybe her parents named her that, thinking she wouldn't amount to anything, and then she goes and proves them wrong.
That's a story in and of itself!
But you're right, now that I think about it. She really does have those qualities. Loyal, sweet, helpful, and dignified at all times.
She is (as you'll see) a wonderful mother as well as majordomo. You'll also get to see her (future) husband very soon. And, of course, you'll also be seeing more of Zuzu in the pages to come.

It sounds as though Zuzu has quite a story, to tell! Like many heroic characters (both fictional and non-fictional), she has risen above her station, in life -- to become very successful, in her own right!
Definitely! Zuzu is the quintessential 'royal secretary' (Loyal and dignified) -- with the wonderful additions of sweetness and helpfulness!
So Zuzu is not yet married? Now I am even more keen, to follow her story (as much as Uru's and Ahadi's; as well as everyone else, between the covers of the Betrothed story)!
Hopefully, everyone (including a new exile) is OK...

Nope. But you'll be introduced to her husband-to-be VERY soon.
Just as they'll be introduced to each other.

I believe Zuzu is actually "inexperienced" in Swahili.
But, besides that, I love her! She looks like the real thing, even if she's more a Zazu's blue. x_x Well done, Nala. C: I really like her, she looks perfect, actually.

Nala15 In reply to nymphopod [2012-08-15 18:41:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes it is. It can mean "foolish", "oblivious", "inexperienced", "simpleton", and other words like that. I just went with my memory. I might change it later. My Zuzu is far from "foolish" or "inexperienced", but she can be annoying or pestering at times. Maybe her parents named her that because they thought she wouldn't amount to anything, and then she decided to prove them wrong.

Oh, no. I didn't mean that at all! I just went with why I said "foolish" instead of "inexperienced". It just didn't occur to me at the time.
Aww... thanks! I like her too!
