just wondering... how did you do that camera match? what did you use for the shadow? what i usually do is, make a black plane with an opacity map (falloff light/shadow) so that where its in darkness its black and in light its transparent.

Well, I just looked through a lot of digital photos I took, and found one with no hard shadows. (Or obvious shadows anyway) Then I just had plain gi for lighting, and a gruond plane with a matte/shadow applied. Then I saved it as a TGA file, and put it over the phot in photoshop.
Ohh, actually, I lined up the bug by using the alt-b image background so I could see the picture in max.

It's a little too easy to tell the difference between the photo and the 3D render for my personal liking. But the concept is just plain awesome. Nice work

PEST CONTROLLLLLLLLLL !!! , Great concept m8e, just one other thing needed a few gun flares from the miniguns or even a kamikaze wasp with a napalm firing stinger

Impressive. I wanna poke it, but that might result in an explosion of sorts.

Hehe, almost thought it was a photograph from the small thumbnail until I read the name of the deviant who made it. Neat idea, the lady bug and the details on the guns are great. Although it's obvious that its not realistic enough. If you pay attention to the blur on the surface its standing on it doesn't go with the lady bug. The focus of the camera is just a few inches inward, somewhere near the area of that black wire
But knowing you made this in such a short time I guess that's understandable.
If I were you though, I'd fix it up and make it more realistic looking as possible with enough details, if given more time before the due date of the contest. It such a great idea I hope none of the other contestants have such a brilliant yet simple idea as this. Good luck.

Thanks for commenting, I noticed the depth of field after I submitted it. I am fixing it as I type, though it was quite a hurry to get it done before the 13th yesterday.
