Description
A small tribute to the amazing game Tribes: Ascend.Made in Blender and rendered with Cycles. A little bit of post-processing done in Photoshop CS4.

I don't know what Tribes is, but I'm guessing this is some kind of mine.
I imagine that the teeth interlock and the interior charge is activated when the halves are pulled apart and twisted so the teeth are on top of each other. The further it's twisted the more it ratchets us the charge. A red light runs circuits around the outside, spinning faster and faster until the countdown runs out.
Perhaps the center section is depressed to lock the countdown, holding the mine in suspension until it is shot or set off by the blast of another mine.
For some reason I instantly imagine guys in space suits drifting along the hull of an enemy vessel planting these every few meters. Then they shove off to a distance and either plink at the blinking red lights with rifles, or just set a timer on the last mine and using CO2 jet packs to fly to a viewing distance and then watch their handiwork as the mines go off in a controlled sequence.

Actually, no. A spinfusor is a sype of single-shot quick reloading railgun, used by most classes in the game. Discs are manually loaded between the rails of a spinfusor, and the top rail is depressed to activate the disc. Discs fly in a straight line at somewhat high velocity, before exploding on impact. One class can actually throw discs without the use of a spinfusor due to raw strength.
