If it weren't for Dooku's lightsaber duel with Yoda, Episode II would've really been hard for me to watch, sort of like watching a two hour soap opera finale. Also, with the exception of a few Jedi, the Sith have better looking lightsabers. Hope Episode VII will be worth the wait(I haven't seen it yet).

Thanks, and I'd love to answer any questions you have. It's been over three years since I've touched it, so I would be a bit rusty, but I can answer a lot of questions still.

What do you plan on using it for?

oulyt In reply to Namelessblob [2010-09-28 12:32:46 +0000 UTC]

i plan to mostly use it for design stuff. i have 3Ds max but i saw how easy it was to make certain shapes and connections between shapes that would take a while to work out in max. i'm not exactly sure what i would use it for. right now i'm just trying to find some tutorial and go through them. i'm up to the assembly ones where i am having a bit of trouble. nothing moves the way it should

UGH. I remember those tuts. What a pain man. Best of luck with that.

I most used Inventor for unconventional stuff - it's designed for the engineering field, and I used it in conjunction with 3DS. I could model a lot of the stuff better in Inventor than I could Max, so I ended up importing a lot of stuff to slap materials on it and use them in animations.

i can't seem to find any tuts for inventor period. it looks like it's not used much at all, and if it is most of the people are self taught and are not sharing their secrets haha. i've been slowly learning how to do things but a nice tut would be very helpful. specially for tools that require more than one visible sketch like the sweep tool. highlighting over it and seeing that little video they provide did not help me at all. i still can't get anything to sweep across the edge of something like i saw some guy do in a video. sorta like a chamfer in max. i mean i guess i can do it with fillet but he used sweep tool and i wanted to follow him to learn the tool but that's not working out.

Ugh: sweep. I wasn't great at either Inventor or 3DS, but when I used them in conjunction I was pretty decent.

Sorry I can't be of more help friend. Best of luck though. Be sure to show me some stuff you end up making!

Don't really consider myself much of a 3D artist anymore; haven't touched the stuff in quite some time, but thanks anyway!

texturing and stuff really, im not too god with UVW maps etc, also what is inventor for ? go5t an email address?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Namelessblob In reply to PSYION [2006-09-11 19:21:55 +0000 UTC]

I have no experience with UVW maps. Inventor is a program, distributed by Autodesk, designed for CAD (computer aided design). It's designed to be used in the manufacturing industry: you can demension it and make everything to scale (I just eyeball everything, I had an engineering class last year that revolved around Inventor and got really sick of scaling everything, I can just resize it in 3ds) My e-mail is mrlane90@yahoo.com. I honestly don't have the internet so if you decide to e-mail me I'll check it as often as I can.

I assume that it's supposed to be Luke's saber. Couple of things: Uno, needs better lighting, Secondly, 'tis a little short. Thanks for the referance though! Could use some materials too. Tell me if you need help...

Awesome work!

Only thing I would up is the shadow size (Shadow Map parameter within the light options); help get rid of some of the aliasing issues in the shadows.

Namelessblob In reply to Scruffy10 [2006-06-28 17:11:43 +0000 UTC]

No, it's a guard of some sort, used (I think) in the same manner as on a real sword: get your opponent's blade stuck.

Micheil [2006-06-26 18:28:39 +0000 UTC]

Excellent models mate, and thanks for the nod. My only critique would be to use hdr lighting to make the chrome of the metals really pop. I don't know how to do it in 3ds, but if you have Cinema 4D, I can give you the materials (no color only diffuse/reflection/specular) and the spheres for GI lighting.
