Description
so why this title? let me explain (if you don't cry, you have no soul):-
Thomas Jefferson and his wife Martha, enjoyed reading together “Tristram Shandy” by Laurence Sterne.
As Martha lay dying in their bed at just 33, she began writing a passage from the book but too weak, Thomas finished it, transforming the passage into a final dialogue between husband and wife:
[written by Martha] Time wastes too fast: every letter I trace tells me with what rapidity life follows my pen. The days and hours of it are flying over our heads like clouds of windy day, never to return - more every thing presses on -
[written by Thomas] and every time I kiss thy hand to bid adieu, every absence which follows it, are preludes to the eternal separation which we are shortly to make!
It seems like Thomas didn’t have the strength to finish the entire quote: —Heaven have mercy upon us both.
After his wife’s death Jefferson folded the paper with a lock of her hair inside and stashed the cherished memento in a secret drawer beside his bed, where it remained until his death.
Its wear showed that it was opened and refolded often.
-
note: i read a lot about Jefferson, i know what happened after her death, what he did but there is one thing i'm sure about: he never recovered totaly from her death and she was the only woman he ever really loved. I KNOW I SHOULD STOP DRAWING THEM BUT I CAN'T!!! LEAVE ME ALOOOOONE!!!

Wow. This is the like, the 5th or 6th picture of this couple that I've clicked on, and I already felt a pain in my chest reading that.
I love their features. I just love the couple. I admire imagination that goes more towards the past rather than the fantasy style.

Your depiction of my great affection for my lovely wife Martha is touching and most accurate. 'Tis a life-smothering blow to lose one's true love too soon, but one must go on though with a heavy heart laden with tears.
Thank you for your lovely imagination.

she always have been weak (her health was probably the main preocupation of Thomas Jefferson) and she never recovered from the birth of their last daughther. she died after 4 months of agony.

Ah my heart is melting....one of your best and also, that quotation just evokes so many thoughts and memories, hopes and dreams sprinkled by pain and loss. This is incredible, so sentimental and sweet and I am learning so much more of Jefferson's character. I appreciate this knowledge for it is hard to find and often the private lives of our founding fathers are not often touched upon with such tenderness. And I agree with you, although we may find different partners in the many stages of life, I think that certain bonds are not tarnished or changed-he loved her so deeply and shared so many similarities and I believe this is what you really call a soul mate for they were so much apart of each other. Wonderful and so bittersweet, I cannot thank you enough for all your effort and recent dedication towards historical figures.

I love this. The unique angle is really eye catching. the white negative space to the left balances it, and even though you can't see his face, you can feel Jefferson's emotion. I also can completely get the desperation, intimacy and love in this moment.

It will sound TOTALLY cliche but this story shows that life can write the most touching scenarios. Hm,why this wasn't made a movie? It would be like The Notebook 2
And you have captured the scene pretty well, so delicate and intimate <3

Those other people don't know what they're saying. I love these pictures and Thomas Jefferson was an amazing Man. Men arn't perfect. They are human and make mistakes. None of us have the right to bash him when we do worse everyday.
