Writer's thoughts:

-Charmander is overrated, while Game Freak did buff Charmander with Metal Claw & Charizard receiving an exceptional boost in his Sp.ATK, he has an incredibly hard time with the first 2 gyms; turning Misty into an absolute RNG battle.

-While Treecko isn't bad, the lack of Leech Seed hurts our favorite Hoenn Gecko.
(Which I'm still confused as to why Game Freak suddenly gave Grass starters Leech Seed 3 generations later.)

-Torchic is pretty underwhelming, in a region full of water & will likely be out classed by Numel.

-Chikorita is fairly underrated, dual screens is a blessing when dealing against Whitney's Miltank & Morty's Gengar.

-Piplup is a sleeper pick as he's the only Water starter without Water Gun, Empoleon's coveted Water/Steel is excellent when dispelling multiple type offenses. (& Toxic immunity)
