Your icons inspired me to make icons! I love them! Unfortunately, I started making icons before your guidelines so this would of been more use to me before but still Awesome!

If I kept it at M*, some rats would've started to feel like they had to rip it. Plus, my website is coming up and i planned to release it then anyway.

Why do you all believe in exclusivity? If there is art that is being shared for free, why share it only with those who are selected and wave it over the heads of the many who want to be part of that community?

I can't believe someone STILL moans and complains when Rickie releases one of his drop dead amazing themes PUBLICLY. It's just astonishing, just be grateful that he even wanted to.

Of course. I was afraid of this. I believe in exclusivity because I do not design for attention and never did. I design to get better, so I share it with people who will give insightful advice. What I release is strictly personal and a product of help from other designers. I made it for me, so even a select amount people would be lucky to see it. And furthermore, I don't even post screen shots of my own private themes, so I don't see what the problem is here. I'm not waving anything in front of anyone. Me sharing anything with anyone is not an obligation, it is my choice. I don't expect you to understand it until somebody's ripping your work.

I have not, and never will condone ripping. On the other hand, when people release themes on M* they tend to filter out in screenshots. I agree, the forum itself is meant for self-improvement, but self-improvement doesn't require exclusivity.
In the end I just don't see the benefit of releasing to a small minority. I support your mission to get honest and thorough feedback from fellow producers of beautiful art, however I don't see the options as mutually exclusive. I think that one can release a theme on M* and get full feedback, and also release on dA as you have, and not have to deal with the constant asks for NFR art.
An example of this would be iAndrew. The works by this artist are superb, and they are released as screenshots to the public, however the files themselves are only shared on M*. It is a bait and switch for the average themer.
I do want to become a better artist myself in Ps. Feedback is a huge part of that goal. But still, I feel that NFR art doesn't serve a purpose especially when there are Creative Commons licenses that would serve your purposes.
I certainly don't have any right to force you to release your art publicly, nor is it my place to tell you how to release your art. It is only an opinion of mine that art is something to be shared, and profited from, and that both routes can be taken advantage of at the same time.
If you disagree, please write back, because I would love to hear another side to the story. This is just an amateur's view of the situation.

Self-improvement may not require an exclusive forum, but it certainly helps. Think of it this way: It's much harder to learn a subject in a class with a lot of people in it than it would be if it were just a small group. MacThemes is so huge that you have to sift through the stupid and useless comments, questions, and requests to find something even remotely useful. So, I just release on M* or BlackCursor, where the whole forum revolves around helping designers. I've had my time on both sides, and releasing privately is better for the releasing artist, excepting the fact that people take offense if you don't release it publicly. When people didn't release things to me, I started making my own designs and icons. That's the best way to do it. Don't take it the wrong way, I love my supporters and fans. What I don't love is that people tend confuse a privilege for a right when things are released on a larger scale.
