Description

Plumey Bitties (c) NanoBanana

I couldn't get the idea of tiny Plumey hatchlings out of my head, so this is a thing now xD

Unless otherwise noted in the type's description, Plumies will lay 1-3 eggs in every clutch. Plumies incubate their eggs for 2-3 weeks and once the first hatches, the other(s) should hatch within a few days.

Thank you! One of my favorite things is world-building and designing cultures and creatures that fit into it.

NanoBanana In reply to zahrart17 [2020-04-04 19:16:01 +0000 UTC]

Yep! They grow up much, much faster than humans do. A human takes about 20 or so years to reach their full adult size whereas these little ones only take a year and a half

NanoBanana In reply to KiwiCalamity [2020-04-04 19:17:39 +0000 UTC]

lol! xD

I'm sure some Plumies would get super elaborate with it, but it's mostly up to personal preference. I might make some new types in the future that specifically have long courtship rituals though (that sounds like a cool idea)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NanoBanana In reply to Jeyawue [2020-04-04 19:19:15 +0000 UTC]

Most Plumies live in the wild, but some have either been raised in captivity or have chosen to stay with humans. I like to imagine them as a tiny race of people that have their own languages and culture, rather than as animals being domesticated for the pleasure of humans.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jeyawue In reply to NanoBanana [2020-04-05 18:33:23 +0000 UTC]

It sounds like domestication because of adopting even in adult age
It doesn't sound like they have a choice but are serpareted from parents when they are old enough like domestic animals

"age for adopting" doesn't make the appearance that they really have a consent in it or are like partners

Also it's not criqiue it just confused me since you didn't appear to make them like animals that's why I wanted to point my thoughts out
Maybe different wording would make it more clearer that adopting is also a choice on their own at least when they are adult

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NanoBanana In reply to Jeyawue [2020-04-06 02:49:18 +0000 UTC]

That's fair, though the comment of "can be adopted out" is more so a note of when it's safe for them to leave their parents if they choose to (it also applies to when they'd naturally leave the nest). Even during the adoption process, the Plumies can always say no or refuse to be adopted. It's kind of like adopting human children where it definitely has to be agreed upon by all parties involved.

A lot of these kinds of situations are covered in the general information about the Bittybones AU (or at least, it was when I first got into it). I think I just got confused by your comment since it felt like common knowledge to me. I kinda forgot that not everyone knows that stuff >v>' whoops

And yes, they do! It's not super strong (not like how other Bitties can be anyway), but they most often use it to establish, maintain, and check the bonds they make with others. Once eggs have been laid, the parent Plumies will cuddle the eggs and share their magic with the unborn souls. This establishes the familiar ties as well as strengthening the growing soul inside. If a family member is sick, they can communally share their magic to help the ill Plumey get better more quickly. Also, they can sense one another through their bonds, even over great distances. Checking in on someone super far away can be draining, but it's good for their mental health to know the others are okay.

Plumies that have bonded to humans have much more magic at their disposal (since a human soul is essentially a huge reservoir that is largely untapped). These Plumies often experiment with the new magic, but what they can do with it largely depends on what kind of soul they're bonded to is. I may have to work up a chart or something to explain the different effects though. This response is already getting kind of long lol

neat, sorry internet was being a pain so couldn't comment till now
What would old age for a Plumey be?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NanoBanana In reply to AJZephyros [2020-04-04 03:23:48 +0000 UTC]

No worries!

And I hear that, my internet has been a bit buggy as well.

Plumies rarely die of old age and tend to fall victim to magic shortage, illness, and predators long before they could get "old". I would say most Plumies would live anywhere from 50-60 years before they showed any signs of old age (graying or dulling feathers, tattered feathers, aching joints, etc.) Magic shortage is the big limiter for Plumies since as more Plumies live in an area, the less ambient magic there is for them to absorb (through air, food, and water). We're talking hundreds of Plumies to cause that kind of shortage though.

Also, if whomever they're bonded to dusts or dies, the Plumey will likely dust as well (unless they're bonded to multiple Plumies, Bitties, humans, or even animals).
