TL;DR Version -- Please stop accusing me of stealing anthro raptors from Marie Whatley (=Horus-Goddess ). As a matter of fact, if you speak to her personally, she admits to have gotten the idea from me first over 4 years ago - in [this] image and [that] one too. Our creations have nothing in common, cut it out.I really would've thought that this problem had died the past almost 3 years that I've forced my character Abydos (the one on the right) into an artistic hibernation, by not drawing her to avoid the drama. But you know, ignorance is bliss right? Unfortunately, there was an incident just a few days ago: I gave *RaowenBlackbird rights/permission to use my Trei-Klaw concepts & story to create her own [character] . She was approached by a fan of HG's work stating that "Nanuka stole those from Marie, you may need to talk to her about that." along those lines & it just brought back some boiled blood in me.
I drew this up in my frustration to downright make it obvious that the raptor anthros that I drew and the ones that Marie owns, have absolutely nothing in common aside from the concept. How someone in blind fandom, could assume they both came from the same artist, is beyond me. The only difference is that HG was shy-rocketed into 1mil+ pageviews and popularity with her character(s) - so everyone drops the assumption that she's the almighty one & only creator. It gets under my skin to be accused of stealing from someone whom I gave the idea to in the first place.
Please, just stop. It's idiocy like such that makes me suppress my creativity simply to avoid history repeating itself. I would personally like to draw my raptor character Abydos a reference etc and yet, it'll be a waste of time to receive comment/notes again saying "HG's raptors are better" "You're almost as good as her" "You need to give HG credit for this idea" just like 3 (almost 4 now) years ago.

Despite the resurfacing drama, it's cool to see you drawing Abydos again. I really like this character.

Ugh, that's horrible! D: Your character design is so neat, it's a shame that people chew you out over something stupid that they didn't even bother to research properly in the first place. I love your character design, and I think you should draw her more just to spite the stupid people. Don't let them drag you down and ruin your creative drive. It would be a horrible waste. ;; ^ ;;

They look **similar**, but I'd never think that you'd stolen designs from her/she stole designs from you. Just looking at their faces you can tell they were drawn by two completely different people! The ones who think you've been stealing are a load of 24 carat muppets (idiots)!

why do people even bother to start drama of who's idea it belongs to. Raptors are or being drawn as much as dogs or cats, etc., and no one else says "hey her fur looks like this person's character". I realized the difference in race since thats the unique part of both your's and HG's raptor and others who give them traits or tribe. But i miss abydos, she's simple yet very pretty with her colours and patterns. I miss her boyfriend, Washi, too, if im not mistaken x'D

I watch about three or four people who all have similar drawing designs or such and as far as I know, they're not all friends, but I don't bother getting my dander up over it. If I see a character who looks a lot like someone else's without credit and whatnot, I might contact the original creator and politely mention it--especially if the pose is similar. But really, I look at your two characters together and the most I think is 'wow, one could be a sub-species of the other.' If I had come across your art separately, I might think 'ooh, they're kind of vaguely similar', but that's really it.
Masurao and Abydos are really nothing alike except for being digitigrade and having sickle claws. A lot of art fans need their shots. Seriously.

These two are fascinating. I've been working on drawing anthros myself and have only so far done things like the Draenei from world of warcraft. I find your race fascinating! Would it be alright if I borrowed the concept? I would never steal your art but I'm always trying to come up with something new.

And really (and I'm not just saying this to make you feel better lol), I never thought the two looked alike at all! Masuro and Abydos are really different. It makes me confused thinking of ways people could think you guys stole them from each other. I guess it's just because they're both raptors, aka people are stuuuuuupid.

It seems to me how the colors are put on. On the skin are similar and of course the feet but other then that they really seem quiet different and i think you guys should definently keep drawing what you love to draw and what your good at drawing for the sake of it being YOURS. I can understand your fusteration with people accusing but you know two know the truth and its absolute nonsense that people would even go out their way to burden you guys. Just ignore them

O_O i agree with Maji, though. they do need to shut the fuck up and worry about their own shit instead of trying to play "hero of artistic copyrights". the dA world would be a better place if these assholes wouldn't put their nose into every damn thing that doesn't involve them.

It is so simple to say ignore it but in reality i know that it's not that easy! I cannot imagine how fustrating it must be to have someone accusing you of stealing your own work!!
Lets just hope that the majority of it stops....i have to say that, being a realist, there is always going to be someone who assumes it. Like you have said.....it is not a nice fact but the fact is that Marie is in the popular crowd therefore the small minded idiots are going to jump to conclusions without looking at what either you or her have said!!!
Having said all that i would love to see more of Aby! She is a beautiful character!!

I know when I was bringing my dudes back (Something I made as a kid but never drew again, I found a home universe for them more recently, so back they came) I was conciously trying to keep the redesign different to avoid any idiots thinking I was bandwagon jumping.
Don't these people realise we all had a dinosaur phase which is usually where these are sourced? Or least inspired by others? Seeing the infamous four (Yours, Mas, Zetzumi and Ewan) is what reminded me of my lot... Just a shame the stupid people will continue to flatly ignore it.

Egh... this crap has started again? I saw that design she did when she posted it and thought it was pretty cool, I thought maybe you were bringing it back! I was actually really excited... but I'm sad that it's started more drama again. :/ To correct you on years, Masurao was in August 2004 according to the very first ref I did of him, and I think Aby was some time before that.
Anyway... do you want me to approach this more "globally" by posting a journal or anything? I'd hate you to keep getting shit for this. :/

Yea, it's resurfaced. =/ The dates on the image aren't the character themselves, but actually the race as a whole being introduced officially to the public. There's no need for you to bring it back up or anything - since there were many journals par-taking it in the past, but I figured I would do my part this time around and speak up since it was always you having to explain.

I'm note sure what's going on. Have a fair idea. I like the character and I think you have done a great job with the character. As for all the drama that is going on around it, I really cant make a stance because I dont know the situation. But if I have goten it right people acuse you of stealing a character that you designed for someone else. If that is then there are some people that should take a chile pill because just because they see someone else draw a character that they feel or think belongs to someone else dose not make it so and you should be a bit more carefull when makeing acusations.

Nanuka created her anthro raptors. Horus-Goddess was inspired by it, talked to her and it was all cool. Horus-Goddess posts hers and people assume Nanuka stole them even though HG has said in her descriptions they were inspired by Nanuka. (People assume because HG is the "bigger" artist, I guess.)
Recently, Raowen asked permission to create one of Nanuka's species and it's cool. Then someone from HG's fanclub starts going "Nanuka stole those, you know" and the drama gets stirred up again. Four years later.

You know I thought that you two were just making a large story using the two as separate raptor species. I didn't however ever think either of you stole from each other. After all, theres 1 million plus dog and cat anthros, and you never hear people complaining about who made it first. It's only logical that anything can be turned into an anthro, and more than one person is going to think it's a neat idea.
Chin up girl. You should draw yours again. I love the idea of raptor anthros and feel a tribal idea would fit them a bit better. Also I stopped watching HG since she's gotten a little too gay for me. >_> And I'm in raptor anthro withdrawl.

I was inspired by both your and Horus Goddes AND Rizyu Kaizen to try some raptors, then got lazy and decided to admire your creations more. Mine look more draconian than like raptors imo.

I fail to remember how often I've been accused of not giving proper credit to Disney's Gargoyles or Chrono Trigger or whatever, even though my original guys have nothing to do with that. I even fail to see the resemblance *roll eyes*

When I look at your and HG's raptors I just see raptors,I didn't really care much if they were different racial types of raptors.They look cool and I always read the artist comments so I know that their is a reason as to why they look the way they do.
I see millions of cat and dog people,seeing some reptile ones is such a breathe of fresh air. I guess because she is popular and her character Masaro is also very popular, that people assume that she indeed create it. They fail to realize that it's a raptor,she didn't create that. Slight differences yes,but if anther artist makes a raptor character they are not in any way shape or form taking away from the supposed "creation".

People can be ridiculous sometimes. I created a raptor race when I was like 12, but that doesn't mean I stole it from anyone. =_= (mine looks more beast than you guys, though. XD) That would be like me pointing and yelling at people who draw cat/lion girls and saying they stole my Felion race. Which is ridiculous since tons of people draw different varieties of feline anthro. *sigh* Oh well...
I think you both do a great job with your raptor anthros. It has made me want to start drawing mine again, but I've been so busy trying to catch up with everything that I owe that I haven't really messed with it. =/
