Description
My entry for AH.com's MOTF 80. Basically, a TL where the Cardenal Infante deals with the Portuguese Rebellion quickly rather than the incompetent who did OTL. As a result Portugal remains in Spain, Baltasar Carlos survives and becomes a new, better Charles II (that is, better than Felipe IV as a king, so a million times better than OTL Charles II) who slowly gives himself and the Court in Madrid much more power from the now-weakened rebellious cortes from Aragón and Portugal. But the second half of the 17th century is still kind of a "seculum horribili" and no way of stopping Spain's demise as the world's eminent power. Nevertheless, the Hapsburgs (who don't die off and solve some of the problem of marrying their cousins/nieces) still govern in a very inept manner post-Charles II and by 1768, a mixture of Enlightenment ideas, social anger and bad (very bad) harvests ends up in a revolution that overthrows the Hapsburg and create a Spanish Confederation, which mixes elements from the 16-17th century rebellions (return to the good ol' feudal privileges) with the new, rationalist ideals of the Enlightenment. The kings are able to escape to Nueva España, which is now called in the peninsula "Vieja España" (ironically ofc).
The 19th century is better for Spain, as there is a stable political system, better economy and demographic basis as there are no Napelonic Wars.
The map doesn't include the colonies ("Repúblicas hermanadas" of Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico and Cuba, which are on the fast track to become also members of the Confederation on equal standing. I might go and make a map for them in this universe.

1. What does the rest of Europe look like ITTL?
2. What happened to the Spanish Empire in America after the revolution?

Beautiful map! But I think you switched Álava and Guipúzcoa, they should be numbered the other way around

¿Olivenza no debería ser portuguesa?
Y, si no ha sucedido la guerra de sucesión, Caudete (hoy en Albacete), debería ser parte del Reino de Valencia

"Vivan las cadenas"?
I say so because I don't think the old Feudal privileges can reconcile with the Enlightenment ideals, which include rationalisation and centralisation, unless this is some kind of special Spanish Enlightenment, which could be. Jovellanos, Feijóo and Capmany could be its most propellent defenders in the late XVIIIth Century.
Good idea and very good map.

Keep in mind this is alternate history, not actual history though.

Very interesting idea. I don't know the details of History of Spain but I never saw any Alternate History with it before.

Pretty interesting, though is there any chance of seeing the Monarchist New Spaniards?

With time, it is possiblE. Atm, I'm making a map of the Caribbean showing both the Spanish colonies of Puerto Rico, Cuba and Santo Domingo and how they are claimed by Mexico, also some of the situation in the Minor Antilles and British North America (Southern US). But for a whole map of South America? Not yet. That'd be too much work atm.

this might be opening a big can of worms here but, what happened in the war between Britain, and the Spain and France combined fleets, and what happened with Gibraltar and the Balearic islands, as I know real world Menorca changed hands a good few times, and Gibraltar and Menorca were given to Britain in.. I think 1814.
And what about the multiple little islands and islet Spains in OTL still controls on the African coast?

Well yes, but that was in OTL (our timeline) 1814, in this timeline/world, the fact that things changed in 1640 means that there will be no War of Spanish Succession nor Peace of Utrecht (1714) so Gibraltar remains Spanish. And since Spain remained Hapsburg, they are not pro-French as OTL Bourbons were, so they tend to ally with France or Britain depending on the situation. But after the Revolution, they became some sort of pariah.

Whoops. yes 1714 I thought I was mistaken after commenting half an hour later.
And good to see you explaining it well, and not having a go for me seeming as a Pro-British colony grabber, when I may be but, I am respectful and like to see how the alternative history scenarios have run or played out.
