That's pretty good on a normal 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube. Wait a minute. Is your Rubik's Cube the standard one or is it a speed cube, Sunnycat17? I'm just curious.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sunnycat17 In reply to R6b1xCub3r [2012-12-12 02:45:51 +0000 UTC]

It's a standard Rubik's Cube.
Non lubed.
Kinda broken in, still a little stiff though.

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-12 04:38:41 +0000 UTC]

Non-lubed? Like the rotation on the Cube is sticky or hardly moves at all? How bad is the Rubik's Cube(the condition)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sunnycat17 In reply to R6b1xCub3r [2012-12-12 16:45:17 +0000 UTC]

Non-lubed.
The rotation on the cube is kinda sticky, but as I play on it more it's getting easier to turn.

Well, the cube is technically fairly new. After picking it up out of the dust, I took it apart a couple weeks later and used an air can and paper towels to clean the dust out of the inside, which smoothed it up significantly. One of the white corner stickers is slightly coming off, but only the edge part, it hasn't progressed.
The stickers still look like crap, but they're all in the exact right place and haven't tried to come off save for that one white.

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-12 22:12:32 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you want to get the cube lubed up, that can be arranged. The lubricant for the Rubik's Cube is heavy-duty silicone spray. You can find a spray can of that stuff for $4 at Wal-Mart.

I didn't have an air can and paper towels to clean the cube. I used some rubbing alcohol and some Q-Tips to clean my cube. It almost the same thing. Putting a good amount of the silicone spray into a Rubik's Cube will make the cube not as sticky as a normal Rubik's Cube product, Sunnycat17.

Sunnycat17 In reply to R6b1xCub3r [2012-12-12 22:20:05 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I'm not gonna be lubing my cube.
In fact, I'm getting a DaYan 5 Zhanchi. =w=
I'll eventually be lubing that once I get good at speed cubing...>:3
I think I would probably get Lubix to lube my cube. It IS the most popular, and comes in a neat little syringe.
Does the silicone spray decay the plastic?

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-13 01:25:29 +0000 UTC]

Very good choice of a Rubik's Cube. My 2 best friends actually have that type of speed cube. Well, only one of them has the DaYan Zhanchi Rubik's Cube, because my other friend somehow lost his speed cube. I believe the current world record holder Rubik's Cuber uses a DaYan Zhanchi speed cube. And yes, I've heard of the Lubix, the lubricant for the speed cube & comes in a little syringe(actually, it's more like a needle than a syringe).

And to answer your question, regarding the silicone spray damaging the plastic, it doesn't mess up the plastic on the Rubik's Cube. I know because my best friend has 5 different types of Rubik's Cubes in his room, Sunnycat17.

Sunnycat17 In reply to R6b1xCub3r [2012-12-13 01:29:12 +0000 UTC]

Alright.

And yes, the world record holder DOES have a DaYan 5 Zhanchi. I believe it is what he/she used to set the record.

I am wanting the stickerless, and it is on my christmas list. It is a cube I am truly excited in getting. My mom has tried to get me the cube twice by looking through stores and failed both times. She made it up by bringing home another cube that I really like and enjoy.
First time was a Void Cube. Such a cool cube.
Second time was a 4X4X4 Rubik's Cube, which I was so happy to see.
So I have 3 different Rubik's Cubes to entertain me until I get my Zhanchi.

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-13 01:57:27 +0000 UTC]

Cool.

The world record holder, Felix Zemdegs, his record on solving a Rubik's Cube is 5.66 seconds. Just under 6 seconds to solve a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube.

And yes, the DaYan Zhanchi is among the more popular speed cubes out there. I can tell the difference between the DaYan Zhanchi and the DaYan GuHong speed cube. I have the DaYan GuHong speed cube. Both speed cubes, I think, can reverse corner cut. They are very smooth, and extremely fast, depends on how you lube the speed cube. The only difference between them is their insides. The DaYan Zhanchi has torpedo pieces that prevent the cube from popping. The DaYan GuHong doesn't have the torpedo pieces, so in order to prevent the cube from popping, you have to retension the cube a bit. In another way to put it, you'll have to adjust the cube's core a bit, Sunnycat17.

Well, coincidentally enough, there is a cubing competition that will be happening in Las Vegas, Nevada next year. I think it is the World Cubing Championship or World Cubing Competition. I don't know. I got the info from a friend. I believe the competition is in either July or August 2013. If the world record holder speed cuber, Felix Zemdegs, shows up to the competition(which is very likely, considering this competition has every cuber in the world), I'm definitely going. My best friend is also planning on going to this competition, seeing that 2 years ago, he was ranked 7th in the Arizona cubing competition.

Wait a second. You said your time on a Rubik's Cube is 3 minutes and 29 seconds, if I recall. Was that your best time to solve a cube or was it your average time, Sunnycat17?

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-13 07:18:07 +0000 UTC]

For a first time, that's not a bad time to solve a Rubik's Cube. I wouldn't be surprised by the minimum time limit to solve a Rubik's Cube to be 3 minutes or less in a cubing competition. To many people who actually tried solving a Rubik's Cube but failed or whatever will consider 3 minutes and 29 seconds a fast time. But for the cubers, it's a yes/no scenario.

For me, 3 minutes and 29 seconds is a decent time, not the best and not the worse. My best time on solving a Rubik's Cube actually surprised me and a couple of people, at one point. I was at a Buy Backs store when I did this, because one of the employers was saying stuff about me not able to solve a Rubik's Cube. Guess what time did I get for solving the cube, Sunnycat17?

My best time as of right now on solving the cube is 1 minute and 22 seconds. And I'm using the beginner's method to solve the cube. I think the beginner's method of solving the cube involves 7 equations/algorithms(2 equations on first layer, 1 equation on second layer, and 4 equations on the last layer), Sunnycat17.

Sunnycat17 In reply to R6b1xCub3r [2012-12-14 16:00:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm still trying to understand this stuff...to me, the algorithms are only patterns...I'm using absolutely no math for this...
I gave the cube another 2 timed solves, and I got 3:24.2, then 3:13.6...
I seem to get faster each time.
Only problem is that the timer was touchscreen controlled, so the timer stopping is 2 or 3 seconds later than the actual solve time.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R6b1xCub3r In reply to Sunnycat17 [2012-12-14 17:53:07 +0000 UTC]

So in this particular case, your two timed solves were 3:21(3 minutes and 21 seconds) and 3:10(3 minutes and 10 seconds). If you're counting your best time as well, which is 3:29(3 minutes and 29 seconds), then you just need to do two more timed solves to determine your average time on solving a Rubik's Cube.

And yes, depending on the person, it may take longer to understand the concept. Since I have been doing this cubing thing for 1 1/2 years(1 year and 6 months), it's practically second nature to me. Heck, I even know two different methods on how to solve the cube. By the way, the official timer they use in Rubik's Cube competitions is a Stack Mat timer. Compared to the touchscreen timers, the Stack Mat timer is a bit more accurate. And unlike the touchscreen timers, you have to put your hands on the timer for, I think, 2 seconds before you can start the timed run. When you start the timed run on solving the cube, you let go of the Stack Mat timer, Sunnycat17.

Sorry about that, . I say your name on every comment because whenever I talk/text to a person, I want to be sure that I don't accidentally talk/text to the wrong person(it has happened to me, at one point). My apologies about that.

Getting one Stack Mat timer isn't really hard to find. Amazon has them for $15, and maybe Wal-Mart has them.

It's easier than it looks. It's just that some people can't really figure out the Algorithm patterns like others can.
To be honest, I used a YouTube video to figure out how to solve it. xD

A standard rubik's cube should be pretty cheap. Mine was pretty stiff for a while, having left it sitting in the dust for years on end, but I eventually learned to solved it. About a month later, I'm able to solve it in 3 minutes and 29 seconds.
I need to retime myself again so I can get an average...
