Since he was tacked up and waiting, it was much better for him to be tied. He could harm himself otherwise if, say, he decided to lie down. This is an accepted practice and not cruel, as horses are generally taught to stand and wait patiently for various lengths of time.

hmm.. ok i guess... my horse stands still though if you put him in his stall with tack on. wich dosent happen much anyways

Some train their horse to stand, others prefer to teach them patience through tying. Either way, it's not cruel to tie a horse in the stall for a little bit while they wait. It's just not very fair to accuse this horse's handlers of cruelty when you don't actually know their training methods or relationship with the horse. Nothing against you, just something to keep in mind if you're going to be taking more pictures of horses in the future.

yeah kinda sounds like what people do with walking horses lol how ironic but nobody say that about them they just immediatly think it;s bad

Moonafleet In reply to naomithewolf [2011-10-15 18:04:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, it has actually been proven by the USDA and other organizations that soring (which I'm guessing is what you're referring to as a training method people "immediately think" as bad) in the walking horse industry is detrimental to horses...So I'm a little confused as to why you think people are simply assuming that's bad. They're not assuming anything. It's been shown to be true, by experts.

yes soring is bad i know and i would be fine if they didnt use the big licks any more but the park shoes would be fine to keep. they use them on saddlebreds and arabians too so why isnt it bad on them? they sore them too sometimes

I'd prefer a horse standing quietly than a horse whose untied and hurting himself.

that makes sence but he either must have had a bad temper or something

freeburgfreak In reply to naomithewolf [2011-10-13 03:59:15 +0000 UTC]

My horses don't have "bad tempers" and I still tie them up. In fact, most horses don't have "bad tempers", it's just for their own safety. If this was Alborozo, I'd be tying him up too. He was worth more than you'd ever earn in a lifetime.
