Description
Zelda Godess LyreZelda Skyward Sword
Part 2 here : [link]
Part 3 here : [link]
- step 1 = draw and cut the pattern
- step 2 = cut out it in the foam (hard insulation foam)
- step 3 = carve it in the shape of the lyre and sanding it for smooth the foam
- step 4 = cover the lyre with paper mache and paper glue
because the foam only is fragile !
I did two sides lyre, so you can see just one side there !
There, my pattern/template :

I think I'll just use the foam you use. I found some that won't brake the bank.XD
Thank you.

When you say cover with paper mache and paper glue, does not mean you add glue to the water/flour mixture? Can you elaborate?
π: 0 β©: 1
Narayu In reply to firecloak [2014-04-27 12:16:55 +0000 UTC]
I made my paper mache with old newspaper and wallpaper glue mixed to the water, I dipped small strips of paper in and put on the shape of the lyre.
the white glue is applied after the paper mache layers dried completely.

Thank you! And how many layers of paper mache did you use?

Narayu In reply to firecloak [2014-04-28 20:25:04 +0000 UTC]
about 3 to 4 layers, it depends to your paper mache.

never did get the sanding down - oh well. ^^' I'll keep trying with the electric knife. I usually just end up doing lots of paper mache to compensate for my messyness.

Narayu In reply to Ashiichan [2012-06-07 17:38:44 +0000 UTC]
I use simple kitchen kinfe (large and small) because I don't have electric knife ! XD
after or during to cut the shape of the lyre, I cut at most reliefs.
I put only one layer of paper mache and lot of glue !

Ashiichan In reply to Narayu [2012-06-12 14:55:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh my goodness dear, I was always afraid to cut myself using a kitchen knife..but I suppose if it works for you, yeah? ^^' When you use a lot of glue, do you mean more than the "typical" 1:2 ratio? I would think using so much would make it hard and/or brittle?
π: 0 β©: 1
Narayu In reply to Ashiichan [2012-06-12 15:21:48 +0000 UTC]
^^ yeah, I always used deangerous tools like knives but I practice !! (don't do it)
I put a fine layer of glue, if you put it of excess, it forms then drops of glue which will harden and it is not really beautiful.
It's better to put it little but to make several layers that the only one who will make a kind of hideous dough by drying! XD
