Description
Oookay lets try this again, PC glitch screwed up my first attemptto post this again after i spotted some mistakes! All corrected now! And so...
This is a drawing i did of Cosplayer Elin Kuzunoha, One of the best around in my opinion, Especially her Chun-Li which is simply dead on! She truly emerses herself in the character added with a really kick-ass costume (her Alpha outfit isn't bad either! and her SFIV gown is sexy as hell!)Great stuff at her site!
This ones for you Elin-Chan! Arigato Tomo-dachi!
Elin Kuzunoha as Chun-Li, rendered in Colored pencils and Prismacolor touches, No.2 pencil shadings.
Chun-Li* StreetFighter II* Capcom.

A really nice piece, and even better for being done in traditional media! I recently discovered this cosplayer myself and she is so amazing!
I adore how she has managed to practically transform herself into Chun-Li, there are so many good cosplay costumes out there but Kuzunoha-San has somehow managed to ascend all of them!
Her and Yukilefay (the brazilian Samus Aran cosplayer) both do tremendously awe-inspiring work in recreating their favourite characters!

Thanks heaps! Yes shes got it down pat, and Elin IS a Martial Artist in real life! Adds more energy and personality to her poses. I admire CGI artwork but i don't care to learn it save to enhance color on my artwork, CGI gets to be an "assembly line" appearance after a awhile.

Didn't know she had filmed herself, thanks for letting me know, I'll check it out, I owe her a poster, I'm making a poster out of one of her poses(well my friend is doing it really) i don't know how to manip and stuff and i don't think i have the set-up for it on my laptop, But i've been so busy lately and i changed my mind and had a different idea, My friend is NOT PLEASED! Hes pissed at me and rightly so(its his time and i'm not paying him, I wanted to but he won't hear of it.)but its a better idea than the original, Shes standing giant-sized in Chun-Li's home town of Hong Kong with night lights all around her, got the idea from a CGI scene i saw, difference is...Elin is dressed! Ha!

genuine Highlander in my platoon! Got my Platoon Sargent respect quick! Katey ran rings around him on our morning runs! Yehawww!) Its enough!
P.S. You might run into Elin, Shes around Tokyo somewhere.

Meeting Elin would be awesome, but as my sister is coming along I don't think she'll be quite as thrilled by the prospect! It's a trip for my birthday, so the weird thing is I'll be leaving when I'm 29 and returning when I'm 30!

With respect i don't see how its any of your sisters buisness who
you make friends with there as long as you don't wander off into
sections of town you shouldn't go alone!(in a foriegn city you're
asking for trouble!)Elin seems to be all kinds of friendly and cool! Though the likelyhood she'll be wearing Chun-Li's qipao if you see her is probably nill! Still enjoy the trip and your birthday! (Ah, to be able to see Mt. Fuji upclose, armed to the teeth with art equipment! Even Godzilla couldn't get me off those
slopes!)

Dragon-the-Tribrid In reply to Narked [2013-05-11 23:13:53 +0000 UTC]
She doesn't mind who I make friends with, I think it's more the fact that she doesn't know Elin (not a video game or cosplay fan), that or she'll feel ditched or something.
To be honest the chances of meeting her are slim really, unless she gets more friendly responding to my comments on DA and later finds out about my holiday. Getting to know her sans the Qipao would be nice though (although I'd like to see that costume of hers with my own eyes, it looks amazing).
Mt Fuji will be one of the places I'll see, I'm spending some time in both Tokyo and Kyoto!

It occurs to me Elin might be willing to meet with you if you tell her WHY you're
there! She'll be intrigued, Let her know you're coming, find a public place where she can see you(i stress the word "SEE!")Naturally she'll be cautious of course, probably bring company, give her a specific date, time and place, and BE ON TIME! She will! If she agrees she'll at least come to take a look at you! Try to drag your sister there, someone female, or older or preferbly Japanese!
Someone to put her mind at ease(couse with her skills it be foolish for anyone to anger her!)If she agrees she WILL be there! Most Japanese aren't keen on standing up strangers, THATS INCREDIBLY RUDE!! *Intolerable!* I know this to be true, if she can't or won't come she'll tell you so! You couldn't run around with each other anyway, you probably won't have time for that. Maybe you'll get lucky and come on a Cosplay week, Then she might be wearing Chun-Li's quipao! Ha!, Ha! Give it a try, you'll never know, she might say yes!
Going to Tokyo and Kyoto? What a difference! Tokyo is more cosmopolitan and you'll be surprised just how many Japanese speak English!(you won't get lost!)
Kyoto is the "Classic, Old Japan" There and in Osaka they speak the Proper, Old Fashioned Japanese, You'll even see women wearing Kimonos here and there!
(the difference between the big city and the " old country")
You'll have a blast! Enjoy! and again about Elin, give it a try! See if shes interested, doesn' hurt to ask! If she says yes keep in touch so she knows when
your in Japan! I nearly got to meet her last year while she was in Las Vegas, (I have an uncle there) alas i WORK for a living. Damn it all!
Sayonara!

I'll have a think about contacting Kuzunoha-san. Are you sure a stranger she's known of for a few months (if even that) asking to meet won't make her uncomfortable? I do have a habit of gushing when commenting on her Chun-Li cosplay pics!
I guess I could tell her what hotel I'm at, I don't know my way around Japan!
But seeing her in the qipao would be an amazing experience, hate to sound like a fanboy but I reckon it might look better in person.
I'm looking forward to the differences between Tokyo and Kyoto, that'll be an interesting experience. BUt I'm looking forward to pretty much everything in Japan!
Sorry to hear you narrowly missed out on meeting her!

You don't want to give her the wrong idea, "Some lovesick puppy trying to hunt me down!" I thought about it, Maybe better to let her know WHEN your ready to leave, Let her know whats happening and when its time to go let her know so she'll make up her own mind, Indeed tell her where your staying, and the fact you don't know Japan, She may know where you are or you might be able to give directions, Japanese women usually prefer to meet friends and love ones at a chosen place, Its rude to come to THEIR place and pick them up! But face reality! more than likely shes not going to be wearing that Quipao, If you get to meet her don't bury her in
kudos! Just let her know you admire her work, HAVE SOME RESTRAINT!
Shes said it time and time again how much she loves Chun-Li! I don't think she'll mind talking about her and her other Cosplay work! You never know whats happening there untill you arrive, Their almost allways having some kind of Cosplay activity in Japan, You could get lucky and she'll be dressed up as someone, cross your fingers, might be Chun-Li! Ha! Truth to tell if she wants to meet you and they're having a Cosplay function She'll inform you if she knows you're coming, You might luck out, but be sure to stay in contact with each other so you know whats going on! She might look foward to showing off especially to her fellow Chunny lovers(i'm sure she has PLENTY!!)Contact her NOW! See what shes up to because SHE might have plans of her own for the future! She may wind up at some convention somewhere else while you're there and it will be all for naught! I say again if shes interested in seeing you stay in touch and let her know whats going on up to the moment you leave the states(unless you can text her, I'm sure she has a smartphone)Keep a cool head allways! whether you meet her or not try to enjoy Japan! (P.S. Do NOT pick fights with the Sumos! They don't like it!! )Good luck!

Fear of over excitement is kind of putting me in two minds, but truth be told I would like to meet her. I'd just have to word my message carefully and considerately.
I know better than to act like a drooling fanboy, and I wouldn't expect her to be wearing her Chun-Li outfit. As I said, meeting her would be enough.
I'm not sure my phone would work in Japan, and there's no way I'd pick a fight with a sumo!
If we did meet, would I have to bring her a present? I'm not 100% on Japanese etiquette and I know gift giving is one part of it. Not sure it would apply in this scenario.
Oh, and I'm from the UK, not the states (but I have visited America a few times, New York City is breathtaking).

Just be yourself, be casual, you'll be fine, Good point about your smartphone, i don't have one, just a regular cell, don't know how one would work in a another country, but Elin speaks and reads English to a certain exstent, just keep in contact through her site, what she can't read she can have her PC translate. If shes interested in keeping in touch you two will figure a way, Worry about that AFTER or IF she wants to see you. You could bring a small trinket, Like a little Chun-Li doll or charm, Nothing major, shes probably not expecting anything, My friends sent me little gifts (like a Cutey Honey statue! Knowing i luv the character, but we KNEW each other long, they were penpals!)
just to be safe, again worry about that IF she wants to see you!
Yeah, i've been to New York, Home of Superheros, back in the 80's
glad your experience were better than mine, I'd never go back, I'm

You know, after all this talk I've been thinking and I've realised one thing-
We barely know each other!
I think that even though it'd be nice to meet her, it'd be best to leave it for now. I do intend to visit Japan again (once I have the money), and by then we might know each other better. Heck, maybe I'll ask her if she has Skype so I can practice my meagre Japanese with her, I've only just started learning it again.
I have the second Cutie Honey anime DVD, that's hilarious! It hits all the anime stereotype bases without being too silly!

Don't underrate yourself, I haven't known her long either, but she
STILL wanted to meet me while she was in Las Vegas! That should tell you something about her, shes a curious, friendly sort. Just let her know you're coming, if shes curious she might want to know
where you are, let her know, its her town! Maybe she'll know where
your staying, Leave it up to her, Remember she might be gone when
your there! Thats why you should tell her in advance, If shes gone
you won't be worried about it.
Yeah Cutey Honey is a hoot! Go Nagai was ahead of his time back in the mid-70's, He single-handedly put the "risque" in Japanimation! (Gratuitous nudity, Excessive, Riduculous violence,
all this on PRIME TIME TV!)though he said the mid-90's OVA is closest to what he envisioned, he still got away with murder with
shows like Cutey Honey and Devilman! (and MAN DOES HE HAVE A KNOCK'EM DEAD WIFE!)

How long did she know you before wanting to meet in Vegas? It's been less than a year with me, heck maybe a little over. Either way, doesn't matter how friendly she is, it could still be construed as creepy if I suddenly said "I'm visiting Japan soon, let's meet!" (But I wouldn't write it so casually and nonchalant to her).
I did casually mention visiting Japan when I tried commenting in Japanese to see if she'd suggest it herself though.
I don't plan on making this my only visit though, next time I go I might feel it more appropriate to ask if she wanted to meet for a drink or whatever.
Knock 'em dead wife? How subtle of you to put it like that, LOL!

Dragon-the-Tribrid In reply to Narked [2013-08-17 18:43:25 +0000 UTC]
That's probably the best course of action, barring running into her by chance (and as I intend to see Akihabara and Harakuju there's a slim possibility but I'm not getting my hopes up!).
I would not be surprised if she has a protective boyfriend like that, especially considering how good her Chun-Li costume is.
What I mean by that is it's easy to fall for someone over an amazing cosplay like that, especially someone like Chun-Li who has been around for a very long time and loads of people probably have childhood memories of Street Fighter 2. Being the only female character made her quite distinctive in that game, everyone knows her.
I know I have fond memories of watching the arcade machine playing the demos, I didn't have the money to play the games as a child. Single digit age really, and it when I saw that machine it was after swimming lessons so it was probably late in the evening (for kids anyway, probably 8.00) too.
So seeing someone recreate themselves as a fictional character who has some sort of meaning to a person can be quite a factor.

I'm old enough to remember when Sorry, Twister and Trouble were the games of choice back in the late 60's- early 70's!Β I was there for the vid-game revolution(ironic we're talking about this as the Steve Jobs movie just came out) and i remember most of all the VERY first appearance of SFII as a demo before it went nationwide a year or two before its official opening(many people aren't aware it was around before '92!)Capcom was still "tweeking"Β it,Β one of the reasons Chun-Li's stockings appeared red in the original game when they were supposed to be flesh-colored,Β Β Programmers were told how to fix that later.Β Not just Chun-Li though she argueably is the most famous character in the game even more than its star member Ryu,Β The game is history and changed fighting games forever,Β Chun-Li,Β like Wonder Woman,Β is strong,Β Intelligent, capable(she does NOT need rescuing most of the time)responsible, sensitive, a perfect example for females of any age,Β how can anyone not admire her?
