Description
and Winter died her yearly death,but her throes were long and deep;
she suffered and she struggled so
and wist not that her reign should sleep.
she raged and fought thru Apriltime
and blasted all that dared to grow,
she would seem to relent for one moment,
and then unleash her ice and snow.
but patient, her sister, dearest Spring,
crept soft throughout the ragged earth
encouraging all the growing things and
urging on their jeweled birth.
so Winter sighed her final sigh,
wept the last sleet on the land;
and Spring swept forth and pried the scepter
from her sister's cold dead hand.

Somehow, it seems rather wrong that you're putting up a poem about the death of winter, considering your username.

Naw, she'll be reborn soon enough. I was tired of her.

Beautiful floral design, the shape is perfect. I kind of wonder if a white or light-beige background color would look better though.

Thanks, Matt!
My problem with white or light backgrounds and flowers, is that the black actually fills out the leaves and gives them a kind of "shading", where the white just shows how thin the spread of pixels really is. Someday if I figure out how to cut stuff out with GIMP and put it into other pictures, I can try rendering on black and moving the fractal over onto a better background.

Grain problems can be dealt with, but I've been doing it for years in Photoshop, so it may not come as easily to someone who just uses it as a color-correction program, or Gimp for that matter.

I really like the natural look in this fractal. A flower with water droplets!

Winter should be quite envious of what Spring inspired (and in awe of what DragonWinter has produced). A very beautiful piece!

You are very welcome. You've seem to have been quite prolific lately - a lot of really nice stuff. I keep planning to dive in a take a longer look at the new stuff. Hopefully soon!

Hehe, yeah, sorry about that. I'm actually always prolific. I need to tone it down, someday I will.

Tone it down - heavens no! A combination of quantity and quality of output should be honored, not throttled. Truth is I'm envious... that's all. It seems that when I get a chance to crank out a few pieces it takes a significant concerted effort and allocation of time to affect it (I've never been very good at balancing several components effectively - outside of the work environment...). Will be one of those sysisphean quests to satisfy a "life goal" I suppose.

Oh, thank you for saying that. Sometimes my prolificness comes at the expense of getting my responsibilities taken care of, though. I need to learn some balance, too.

Natalie - you're very welcome. When you do figure it out the balance thing - please let me know... I've been trying to various degrees to make it work for a bit over 25 years now and, sadly to say, have had little positive progress on that front... Maybe with the help of the members of the broad DA fractal community we can finally tackle this challenge..oh who the hell am I kidding...

Thank you, Linda!
I've been saving up my poetry for awhile, it's much easier to write with an image to inspire. I love to write poetry, I've been doing it all my life, but I don't think I do it like other people. I think I'll put stuff up as just the writing, sometime.

I don't care if you write like other people. I just love what you write!
I peeked back at this deviation's page, by the way, just to see if people were noticing the poem and I was very glad to see that they were!
