Description
Final two-page spread for Nonplayer #1, released April 6 2011 by Image Comics. You can buy a copy of the comic here: [link]And the digital version of the comic can be found here: [link]
All of the pages for Nonplayer are drawn directly in Photoshop CS3 using a Cintiq tablet monitor. For line work I use default brush settings at 100% hardness.
For coloring, I use the popular Multifill and Flatten plugins ([link] ) to build selectable areas of color, and then I add new layers of color at different blend modes and opacities (this is a pretty random, haphazard, and slow process).

Just do a Google Image search for "fisheye grid." Your vanishing point is at the center of the grid (just like in classical one-point perspective), and all parallel lines that are perpendicular to the viewer just follow the grid lines on the sphere. Much, much easier to do while working digitally, since you can just put the whole grid on a layer and then trace under it. Not too hard, really! Good luck!

i saw this earlier (was amazed), and then decided to listen to jason brubaker's podcast with you in it without realizing who you were or that this was your art, looked up nonplayer, and freaked out since i've followed you on dA for a long time and never made the connection. but great work!

i literally cant get over this. your pages are all just so rich and full of beauty to take in, but this has to be like the 15th time i've looked at this piece. it's breathtaking. words escape me. besides the brilliant concept, perspective, line quality, detail and overall drawing iq, it makes me want to work on my colors. how long did this page take you?

love this.
I am so inspired by your words: "I wanted this comic to be as good as I could make it". please don't compromise, it is worth the wait.
I hope I can make comics like this someday.
