and it seems fall is coming to winter
since the leaves have lept
to lay a quilt over the terra firma.

I dont normaly like things that have been messed about with too much, but this works really well. It such an errie, strange atmosphere. The lightings great too - how it just highlights each branch of the tree. Nice .

I don't usually like either, but when I was creating this image standing before this tree I knew precisely this was what I wanted to do.

Good manipulation. I wonder, was that a large spotlight to the right? or did you change the background of the shot?

I'd hardly consider it a manipulation. It's selective sharpening, also possible through the use of a view camera. I, however, have never used my view camera as it's from 1940, so instead I did this in Photoshop. It's the photograph with a quick mask blurring all but the circle I wanted to leave sharp.

Exposure latitude and processing curves is how the background is almost black. No spotlight.
