A couple of tips with the Geometry Editor:

If you've dragged over a few polygons with the LMB held down to select them, then want to add more polygons to your selection, hold down the CTRL key and click on/drag over the new polys. It will add them to the existing selection. I find it best to select large areas in a succession of CTRL clicks/drags, which means you can undo them step by step if needed.

If you go wrong and select polygons that you don't want, hold down ALT and click them - it will remove them from your selection.

Β  I have been using this technique in a new scene. Very handy. It certainly opens up all sorts of new possibilities for clothing options. Much more versatile than clipping polygons away with the geometry editor, which is what I had been doing.
Β  Thanks for posting!

Need to try it. Β Usually I make custom diffuse maps but that does not allow me to change the material.

I have to try this method, I've used Hexagon to create new zones before, but it's a lotta work.

I did that with Katie and Steph's masks, but I had to import them to Hexagon anyway. They wear the Ultra Cowl, and to get it to fit their faces, I had to engage Mesh Smoothing, and the darn things broke up along the material zone lines. It isn't one solid piece. So, they needed to be welded into one unit. Otherwise, yeah, that is a major pain in the neck. On the other hand, a Hexagon material zone is permanent and conveys with the item across multiple characters. So, it's a tradeoff.

One question: You wouldn't happen to mean Wire Texture Shaded instead of Wire Shaded in your instructions would you? I only ask because when I went to Wire Shaded everything was gray, and in your tutorial it had color to it.

I use Wire Shaded. Sometimes it has color, sometimes it doesn't. I think the reason the cloak was red is Smay's particular shader -- he uses simple base colors on that cloak instead of maps or tiles, similar to the Uber metals. That's why I usually set the color of the new Zone to black so it stands out. If you want color, or to see how the map lies on the figure, use the Wire Texture Shaded. As long as you can see the geometry, you're good. It didn't occur to me to show what Wire Texture Shaded does. That's the best way to see how the seams and other parts of a mapped garment fall as you add the new Zone. Not that geometry and maps ever align.

I'll make up a fourth part that covers the differences. That is pretty important.
