I love Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. Good gosh they are the super coolest peeps ever. I actually found a picture some where on the internet (in this really good Star Wars screen cap gallery... I don't think I'll ever find it again) and there was this picture, I wanted to draw it so this is how it came out.
If you want to get all symbolic you can go into heavy detail about the light and darkness in the characters based on how they are dressed and how it reflects their personas and how they are wrapped in a neutral situation/experience/occasion and they're bound to each other in the ever twisting sand storm

I finally saw this scene on the SW Blu-Ray and fell in love with it. Just having Han thank Luke in person instead of over the comm makes it more powerful and sincere.
This is an awesome pic. I LOVE Han and Luke's friendship.

Wow. I like the way you made them look--I like way too much about this to list one
thing that I really dig...but the colors, the poses, the facial expressions, the surroundings...
this is emotional, passionate, and full of feeling. Han wears a reassuring look--perhaps
because he knows that their paths are splitting. Luke looks afraid--his father's choice must
loom before him. And the contrast between their clothing sorta symbolizes their paths--Luke
faces the source of darkness, while Han fights for those not strong enough to fight independently.
And the storm...wow. Passionate. That's what I like about it. Deep.
Just trying to put to words what I'm seeing.

Looks like when they disguised themselves as sandpeople in DARKSABER to get a free ride across tatooine to get to obi wan's old shck and see if there were any jedi records that could help save Luke's girlfriend callista. all geekiness aside LOVE IT

Han in your style really appeals to me.. I love the character but there are times in the film where I only see the actor. This is the character Han Solo, like, for real.

Thanks! You should see Star Wars eventually... ya know, before you die - just to experience what all the hype is about. It is something of a future oddessy with King Aurthur but with space pirates and aliens.
And I guess I cant go wrong with the symbolism, my mom is an english teacher so I've had the whole shibang of literacy symbolism smacked on me form a young age. I'm just glad that I was able to express it well enough for other people to get it!

Thanks! Wow thats so nice. I actually had this really long explination of it really, but I forgot to write it down so it didn't come out as elloquently as I had liked. When you watch the films (because you surely will) you will notice how their dress coincides with their personality. Ever heard the term the clothes make the man? Star Wars really plays into it.
Both Luke and Han go through tremendous personal changes (Luke expecially.. dear boy) and its really wonderful that they find a common ground still. You'll see that Luke starts off as the innocent pure character and Han is the dark and dangerous character... and then they change. I think one of the reasons why I chose this particular scene (because it is in the last installment of Star Wars) was because it shows how *different* they have become from who they were in the beginning of their journey. But no matter what, through rain and sleet and storm, through desert and desolation they will be connected through their joined experiences till the end.

I had to re-register in order to comment because I lost my old account details! This is really wonderful - you've captured their expressions perfectly, and the soft colouring is lovely. It's also one of my favourite deleted scenes, and I wish George Lucas would release the actual footage of it! I love the way you've described them being bound to each other in the ever twisting sand storm *melts*
