Description What's not to love about an F-4J Phantom II, in a colorful Jolly Rogers scheme? The skull and crossbones on the tail, the black nose, the yellow and black diamond sash along the fuselage? The Air Force thought they were cool in putting shark's mouth's on their camoflaged Phantoms in Vietnam, but nothing can match a Navy Phantom in Jolly Rogers livery !

This is my build of the 1/48 scale F-4J Phantom II of VF 84 Jolly Rogers. The instructions actually call for this bird to have the nose painted white, but I like black better. A great kit with nice detail, it was a lot of fun to put together!

Thank you much - but putting together the treads scares a lot of folks away from tanks!

I know what you mean, I've put together just about every kind of
tank track and some of them are just crap! Many of my tanks have
sewing thread holding links together.

Thanks - I really like this paint scheme - it looks great on F/A-18s now!

Thanks, it's a nice kit. Only big weakness is the tailfins - they only have a small pin to glue into the fuselage and they break very easily. Moving with this kit is always scary because disaster looms each time you pack it up!

I adore Phantoms in Jolly Rodgers livery. . . Best looking non-cammo'ed scheme the F-4 ever flew in. Even more with the one you did. With black & gold- Its classic trim. I can't compare this with a USAF F-4 in cammo with a sharkmouth though, its a draw. . .

That the Revell kit? Looks familiar enough.

I'm with you on that one - jolly rodgers is my favorite phantom scheme. I actually like the USAF sharkmouth phantoms a lot too though - I sometimes make fun of the Air Force anyway being a Navy squid.

The kit is the Hasegawa one - has nice engraved panel lines! I have a couple of Revell ones. My son built one - he split it in half. One side is a bicentenial warlords scheme, the other is jolly rodgers. My unbuilt revell one is the VX-4 Playboy bunny version.
