Description
Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],Alright, this one I did quickly. felt too lazy to color it. but I guess colors are not really necessary. the message is clear. no?
today I'd like to talk a little about Stereotype.
On April 19, 1995, a big deadly terrorist attack transformed Oklahoma City into the center of the media universe. Reporters from all over the world swarmed to cover the bombing of the city's federal building, where 167 people died.
But unknown to most people at the time was the tragedy that happened next. At least 220 attacks were committed against Muslims and Arab-Americans after the FBI said that three Middle Eastern men were the prime suspects in the bombing.
There was a rush to point the finger in the four days before authorities charged former U.S. Army serviceman Timothy McVeigh in the bombing.
"Bombing happened => the suspect must be a Muslim." sadly this is how many westerners (who are not familiar with Islam) think.
the West has many stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam that are due to the media, prejudice, and ignorance. Islam is often looked upon as a "extremist", "terrorist", or "fundamental" religion. Many people hate Islam and do not want to to try to know more about it. In many cases, the media’s reports about Islam are incorrect due to ignorance.
The major factor which contributes to Islamic stereotyping in the West is due to the media’s ignorance of selecting their words that describe Muslims. Some common names heard or seen in the news about Muslims are "extremist" or "terrorist". These words are misleading and are mainly anti-Islamic.
Adding to the fact that the media creates inaccurate ideas about Islam, the Western media is also very influential to its audiences in making negative Islamic stereotypes.
There are over 1.3 billion Muslims among the 6.6 billion people in today’s world, and 45 of the world’s 193 nation states are largely or predominantly Muslim. The economic circumstances, religious attitudes and political preferences of these Muslims vary widely, of course. The vast majority are moderate, responsible citizens, who are the same as people everywhere. They want meaning and purpose in their lives, sustenance and economic opportunity, family, friends and happiness. among these Muslims, there are the bad ones, and there are also the good ones.
Today in the west, there are three types of Muslims: immigrants, converts and those born to either group. but many Westerners don't know this. they think that a Muslim must be an outsider. by thinking like this, they are denying the native Western Muslims their Western identity. do not think an American who happen to be a Muslim is no more American!
The best solution to defeat this stereotype and avoid discrimination and prejudice is to learn about these people that are different. when we learn about each other, we know the truth from falsehood and we won't be fearing each other. so let's all be learning.
I hope that was beneficial.

why is it so hard for all religions get along, I live in Australia you don't hear about murders in the name of "Religion" But i think the one to blame are the religious leaders or people as a excuse to hate/kill/rape because I said so, It makes me question how these people can sleep at night allowing awful acts to occur or its easier to blame other religions than there own.
by the way.
Ramadan Mubarak.

No reason to fear or hate anyone if they don't give you cause to do so. But I live in a western country with a lot of muslim immigrants and they give us lots of reasons to fear and hate them. Sadly.

I'm a non-Muslim woman, but it angers me that we judge Muslims by the small minority of Muslims who believe that jihad means "holy war" and commit violent acts of terrorism! WE SHOULD NOT JUDGE ALL MUSLIMS LIKE THIS!!!!

Small minority? LOL They did a couple of big studies on the opinion of muslims in Germany and the result was that the majority (over 60%, for Germans it as under 10%) sees violence as a way to solve problems and respond to "insults" (and we all know how easy it is to "insult" muslims XD) and conflicts, believes that christians and atheists are lesser human beings, thinks that German culture is inferior to muslim culture, doesn't respect German women, has a problem with homosexuals and wants Germany to be converted to islam and supports sharia law). After the Benghazi attacks there was a huge muslim protest in my city. At first I though, yay, finally the stand up against the violence and murder committed in the name of their religion. But nooo, they demanded respect for islam, thus indirectely agreeing with the terror attack and murders. So much for small minority. XD Most muslims support islamist ideologies and see people like you as inferior and less worthy than themselves. Only a tiny minority dared to speak out against radical islam and the violence, surpresson and killings committed in the name of their religion.

I believe fairness and justice imply that we judge everyone according to their deeds. if one person is bad, he should be singled alone as bad. not his whole community which, in most cases, does not even agree to his acts.
sadly the media in the west twists the facts and spreads falsehood to the people for political agenda.
I always believe that knowledge is the only way to defeat ignorance and falsehood. the more we learn about the other, the less we fear/hate the other.

Less than a week after 9/11, I encountered a man who was making hateful comments to two women who were wearing hijaab. I was proud that the Muslim who attended my school attended class as usual on 9/12, hopefully knowing that they had nothing to fear from their classmates. So when the man was harassing them for their choice of dress as being 'unAmerican', I came up behind him and kicked him in the backside. As an American, I knew that it was my duty to uphold freedom in all its forms. I am, however, ashamed that there are those who call themselves American who only uphold bigotry and oppression. No people is perfect, but it is the duty of all of us to tell those who do such things that their views are not acceptable. I kicked him hard, too.

When people first heard bombing, some will say that the suspect must be a Muslim but it's unavoidable because once there are a bombing that involve Muslim like Osama, people will suddenly think that "Oh, so Muslim bombs and kill people". It's like their human instinct that make them categorized every single Muslim into a terrorist when bombings involve Muslims. Like for example, some people think that black skinned are thieves, murderers, criminals etc because there happened to be black people who does illegal stuff yet not only them who does it but because their skin happened to be black, they thought "Oh they do not have the same skin/religion as I have so he/she must be the suspect of the crime". It's mostly because that the person doesn't know how it felt to be in other people's shoes when being blamed for something just because they are different or they don't understand their religion in some cases.
It is unavoidable for stereotypes because some people are scared due to the media. Sure, some bombings does involve Muslims but people can't do anything about it. Some people might be understanding, some just plainly paranoid, some who were convinced from the media, or some who just in denial of everything. There are people who might go through extra security check to Muslims but it is just in case since it's better safe than sorry even if they don't know they are offending them.
Maybe one day all people will be more understanding but I don't know how many years would it even take for people to do so without plainly just killing innocent people just because someone of their religion committed the same crime in the past.
It's sad, really.

I gotta story to tell:
I was on my way from the Middle East to America and along the way we had to stop at Frankfurt, Germany all be myself. I had my luggage and stuff and I had my Hijab on at the time. I couldn't walk 5 feet without some security guard wanting to pat me down. And the crazy part was that I already had a security guard next to me to walk me to the next plane!
I'm telling you, the way people think Muslims and Arabs are terrorists are so not called for.

I think, the way we Europeans react is due to the fact we fought for 1000 years against the Islam. The Ottoman Empire, I am very fond of it, reached until Vienna, and the Barbaresk states terrorised the Mediterranean. Therefore, we are used to have a bad view on the whole Islam... Except me, cause I like badass Empires and the Turkish culture XD Though I like to be a Christian-knight as well

and soon, the western world that still sometimes hate Islam, will see the truth and will stop hating Islam

Been there. I'm pagan and I get so sick of people seeing me wearing a pentagram and going "OMG, satanist!" or "hide the babies before she sacrifices them!" (or words to that effect) without even bothering to ask me to clear up any confusion first. They just want to judge me according to their worldview and leave it at that.
That said, I'ma throw my metaphorical two cents in:
Yes, you are correct that people stereotyping is horrible, and shouldn't happen - but in terms of attitude to other religions Islam takes a very militant view. And I mean the fundamental/'pure' Islam, not the more common western softly-softly approach. This is probably because other religions such as Christianity have had their time of dominance and commited terrible things like genocide and witch-hunts. I'm not saying Christianity is better, because it isn't - but wishing for co-operation when there are Muslims in the Middle East (where the media focus is) who are shown to be militant, don't respect laws that arent religiously based "holy writ", treat their women poorly etc etc is a forlorn hope. There are three ways I see the current fights going - A) Islam becomes more powerful, which will eventually lead to subjugation and possible genocide of "infidels" because of its compulsion to proselytise people who don't want to know. B) Islam (the militant kind) calms down and becomes moderate. C) The western countries get their soldiers out, another nasty war is joined ala the crusades. Bad times for everyone.
I would much rather option B, myself, but eh, I'm not optimistic. Too much 'tradition' and injured male ego floating around for things to just be that simple.

Couldn't have said that better myself.
I'd happily sit with a Christian, Atheist, Pagan, Muslim, or whoever; because I don't have any problems with them until if they throw the first punch. In the end we're all still human and the only race I really see is Humanity. We need to let go of our hatred and differences for once and this is probably the best time of our history to do so before we officially destroy ourselves over petty arguments because some single-minded news reporter said so.
It's bad enough we have people who don't see things from two different perspectives and just blindly accept any information from some television. Bullshit like "Herp-derp moose-limbs are bery, bery bad pee-pole" from news sources on the television just makes me want to drive up to their station and smack them right upside the head for being so ignorant and using people's fear to fuel propaganda in doing so.
I also love the excuses that I've heard from some people where I live, "We don't need the internet, WE HAVE TELEVISION!"... Sorry, but the Internet is the most powerful world-wide digital library and Governments have even failed to contain it multiple times. Then they wouldn't believe me about people like Anonymous defending it because they're also labeled cyber-terrorists by some typical fear-mongering news show on the television.

Yet internet although true journalism, is also a source where you get to see 2 poles at the same time, depends on what bias is used, to me no information makes sense unless it's complete, and Islam has many debts due because they deceived the expectations of many a-like that they lied to as being tolerant, my girlfriends mother doesn't let us be together because i'm not a Muslim, her mother is not a terrorist, but she terrorizes our relationship because of Islamic ideal, may that inspire you people.-
