Description
Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],Alright, this one I did quickly. felt too lazy to color it. but I guess colors are not really necessary. the message is clear. no?
today I'd like to talk a little about Stereotype.
On April 19, 1995, a big deadly terrorist attack transformed Oklahoma City into the center of the media universe. Reporters from all over the world swarmed to cover the bombing of the city's federal building, where 167 people died.
But unknown to most people at the time was the tragedy that happened next. At least 220 attacks were committed against Muslims and Arab-Americans after the FBI said that three Middle Eastern men were the prime suspects in the bombing.
There was a rush to point the finger in the four days before authorities charged former U.S. Army serviceman Timothy McVeigh in the bombing.
"Bombing happened => the suspect must be a Muslim." sadly this is how many westerners (who are not familiar with Islam) think.
the West has many stereotypes and misconceptions about Islam that are due to the media, prejudice, and ignorance. Islam is often looked upon as a "extremist", "terrorist", or "fundamental" religion. Many people hate Islam and do not want to to try to know more about it. In many cases, the media’s reports about Islam are incorrect due to ignorance.
The major factor which contributes to Islamic stereotyping in the West is due to the media’s ignorance of selecting their words that describe Muslims. Some common names heard or seen in the news about Muslims are "extremist" or "terrorist". These words are misleading and are mainly anti-Islamic.
Adding to the fact that the media creates inaccurate ideas about Islam, the Western media is also very influential to its audiences in making negative Islamic stereotypes.
There are over 1.3 billion Muslims among the 6.6 billion people in today’s world, and 45 of the world’s 193 nation states are largely or predominantly Muslim. The economic circumstances, religious attitudes and political preferences of these Muslims vary widely, of course. The vast majority are moderate, responsible citizens, who are the same as people everywhere. They want meaning and purpose in their lives, sustenance and economic opportunity, family, friends and happiness. among these Muslims, there are the bad ones, and there are also the good ones.
Today in the west, there are three types of Muslims: immigrants, converts and those born to either group. but many Westerners don't know this. they think that a Muslim must be an outsider. by thinking like this, they are denying the native Western Muslims their Western identity. do not think an American who happen to be a Muslim is no more American!
The best solution to defeat this stereotype and avoid discrimination and prejudice is to learn about these people that are different. when we learn about each other, we know the truth from falsehood and we won't be fearing each other. so let's all be learning.
I hope that was beneficial.

In America, our allegiance is to our land, our diverse culture and the Constitution (with the Bill of Rights) which has served to make our nation so strong. And while we give all religions the opportunity to practice their belief's without overt government interference unless it becomes a threat to life, liberty or the search for personal happiness. Islam as practices in it's purist form, not the moderate more liberalized version your talking about preaches that Sharia Law trumps ALL man made laws including our Constitution. This is not an acceptable concept in our country.
While you may personally be a more moderate Muslim and practice your faith while respecting others around you to practice theirs, it is events such as 9/11 and seeing how personal rights of men and especially women are trampled underfoot in Islamic dominated countries that work against public acceptance of Islam in America. We revere life, whereas the highest blessing a young man can achieve under Islam is to give his life to serve Allah.
Don't blame the other's on the bus who cringe from the lone Muslim. We see what happens when Islam controls a nation. Even now, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Egyptian presidential candidate, Mohammed Morsi, has stated that Christians will be forced to “convert, pay tribute, or leave.” The “achieve the Islamic conquest of Egypt for the second time, and make all Christians convert to Islam, or else pay the 'jizya' (Islamic tax).”
Thanks but no thanks.

My history teacher this year was very adamant about getting over our sterotypes. I have discovered that Muslim history is not full of assholes who tried to overtake the world by randomly killing people for no reason; it's full of people. Other people in the US only like to think they're all terrorists because they aren't white, their religion is different, they live by a different set of rules, and some of their women wear "tablecloths" on their heads; and yes, I did hear one of my classmates call it that when we were talking about the Muslim girl at school and how she does not kill people in the name of her religion.
Christian Crusades, anyone?

Most religions have dumbasses who kill in the name of their "god" or belief system. Only one I can think of that doesn't have this problem is Buddhism.

I've been to England evey summer and I see plenty of Muslims walking around, say, the shopping centre or the zoo. If they want to go out shopping or enjoy their holiday, then I feel they should have the right to do so without discrimination from paronoid people.
Also: Had to laugh at "He must have a bomb inside that bread" and "I forgot to write my will". XD

I think it is how it is spelled.. BEFORE 9/11.. would mean before the event that mark the day when Islam is labeled as Terrorist in worldwide.. AFTER 9/11, rumors and words of hatred became more amplified through the world..

That's so silly, how do those people know he's Muslim, just because he's wearing a cap? And why would those people be so ignorant as to think he'd have a BOMB in his bread? God, not all Muslims are terrorists...

I don't usually judge a person based on their religion, race, age, gender, etc. I judge based on the persons character who they are as a person. I don't care if a person is Jewish, Christian, Muslim or Buddhist. What matters is who they are as a person ^^
and yes i sound all idealistic and stuff... i don't mean to...but i really don't judge a person based on religion or race or anything...never been part of my mindset.
Peace ^^

I really don't get all the hate towards Muslims rather than the extremists. Especially when it's Christians spreading that hate. If they looked through history, they would find no reason to hate all Muslims. Same goes for everyone else. Those terrorists attacking America are Muslim extremists. All things, religious or not, have their own extremist groups. Westboro Church, KKK, etc. The whole hate thing is total bullshit.

Wa'assalam alekom
Well actually I get more questioned by Muslims that has been raised in a Muslim home then my friends that isn't Muslim.
Sometimes the questions gets to much when it comes like this cuz they question why I would revert rather then to support. Of course we all are different so you can't really judge all by one or a few ppl
I actually wrote on my twitter:
I'm Muslim
I'm Swedish
So what?
Cuz of the endless question of:
I don't get it are you Swedish or Muslim?
Islam is a Religion, Everyone can revert and none should be looking down on you just cuz you struggle with learning
I wish that more ppl would listen and try to understand before judging (something they shouldn't do at all but yeah)
But then we do have the others that believe in what the news tell them without looking up the facts which is extremely unfair! But yeah Muslims just gotta work harder and being more patient and nice to the ppl around us and state an example.
Spread the Love and Peace :3
Sorry if I sound a bit all over the place.
May Allah bless you all
