Description Assalaamu alaikum [peace be to you],

In today's turbulent world, Islam is often on the front page - mostly for the wrong reasons. Islam calls for peace; yet some have taken this peaceful way of life and hijacked it into a violent way, and distorted their ideology for personal and political gains. Seeing a faith through explosive world events, and judging it by the actions of a misguided few, is the primary reasons why Islam is often misunderstood.

Islam is sometimes, intentionally misrepresented. Some politicians, religious leaders and media have found an ideal scapegoat in Islam. By associating Islam with the inhumane acts of a handful, they have been successful in driving larger numbers of people to vote for them; to donate towards their ministries; and to read their newspapers, watch their television programs and listen to their radio shows.

Islam is frequently misunderstood and may even seem exotic in some parts of today's world. Perhaps this is because religion no longer dominates everyday life in Western society; whereas, for Muslims, Islam is life. Muslims make no artificial division between the secular and the sacred.

For quite some time Islam was thought of as some "Eastern" religion. However, with an increasing number of Muslims speaking out against this falsehood; the true and peaceful nature of Islam is becoming more evident. Muslims are standing up against terrorism, against the persecution and killing of innocent people, and against those who perpetrate such injustice in the name of any faith.

Muslim culture often isn't very well understood in America and the west in general. To help sort out fact from fiction, here we address a few common ways Muslims are misunderstood:

Misconception: The terms "Muslim" and "Arab" are synonymous.

Truth:

- Only between 18 and 20 percent of Muslims worldwide are Arab (source: the Council on American-Islamic Relations).
- The largest Muslim population in the world is in Indonesia (source: the CIA World Factbook).
- Most American Arabs are Christian, not Muslim (source: U.S. census figures).
- "Arab" is a geographic/cultural term. "Muslim" refers to an adherent of Islam.

Misconception: Muslim women are oppressed and forced to wear the hijab.

Truth:

- Women often see it as empowering because they are not viewed as sexual objects but judged by their character.
- Muslim advocacy groups point out that four out of the five countries with the largest Muslim populations โ€” Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey โ€” have had female heads of state, something the United States cannot claim.

Misconception: Islam promotes violence and terrorism.

Truth:

- According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, prominent Muslims, Islamic organizations and Islamic scholars have repeatedly denounced the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 and terrorism in general. One letter sent to President George W. Bush was signed by leaders from nine American-Muslim organizations, which together represent most of the seven million Muslims in the United States.
- Jihad is a term that is often misunderstood and associated with violent radical militants. However, according to Muslim advocates, the word jihad means to "strive, struggle and exert effort." It is a central and broad Islamic concept that includes struggle against evil inclinations within oneself, struggle to improve the quality of life in society, struggle by military forces in the battlefield for self-defense or fighting against tyranny or oppression (source: the Council on American-Islamic Relations).

I hope this was beneficial

IN THE DRAWING:
"Ya Allah!" in Arabic means "O God!"

if I am right, it is from the God. if I am wrong, it is from myself.

I have a question and it is an innocent one because what one does not know is called ignorance and I do not want to offend but can a Christan wear a hijab?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Nayzak In reply to Dragonair-lanturn [2014-08-12 23:05:49 +0000 UTC]

of course. didn't you see Christian nuns wearing Hijab (called habit in English)? or the Lady Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ -peace be upon them- always portrayed in Hijab.

And Didn't you know there are many cultures and communities where women wear the Hijab? have a look at my artwork here just to see a few www.deviantart.com/art/headscaโ€ฆ

We believe everyone has the right to wear whatever they want. if a non-Muslim wants to wear a hijab, who are we to object? besides, I know of a few non-Muslim girls here in DeviantART who tried to wear the Hijab.

in such crossroads, the only advice I can give you is: ask the God almighty to guide you and show you the right path. it's the only way to make the best choice.

if you have any questions about Islam, please feel free to ask. I may not be a scholar, but I can share the little knowledge I have.

peace

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Nayzak In reply to Dragonair-lanturn [2014-08-13 13:52:10 +0000 UTC]

We Muslims believe only the God almighty blesses and provides happiness to people.
The prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- was but a man. A guide chosen by the Almighty to deliver a divine message. but the real savior is the God alone. So we say "may the God bless you" or "may the God guide you" or "may the God give you happiness"...

I hope this helps.

Let people wear what they want. Geez itยดs really not hard.
But I got one question. How do you handle these in hot weather? Because they look like they are very warm.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Nayzak In reply to somebodyoranybody [2014-07-08 16:31:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't know because I'm not a woman. I think a Muslim woman may be able to answer your question better.
but I know there are different kinds of fabric. in hot weather, my wife wears scarves made of breathing fabric that allows air to pass through and she wears a big hat on top. I won't say it feels cool, but it certainly feels less hot than other kinds of fabric...

I read the comments of everyone and i have been seeing many complaints about when people ask them about their culture. Is it the way people ask you or is it how they react. In most cases when people are uncomfortable and rude they tend to be annoying. ย

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Nayzak In reply to Chibigaming13 [2014-04-03 01:49:24 +0000 UTC]

I believe asking questions isn't the problem. sometimes, the way one asks may be offensive or they just don't want to accept the answers because, well, they just want to believe what they want.

I personally don't have a problem with people asking me about my religion. some people ask honest questions. some of these questions display a clear intention not to offend. while others are clearly offensive. what pisses me off the most is when people ask a question and answer their own question. as if they are not looking for answers...

"No you see I hate being raped by my husband of 30 years of age when I myself am 13!"
How would you be raped by your husband of 30 of age when you yourself are 13 WHILE your profile says you're a MALE! Do you want to tell me that you're married to a man 17 years older than you who rapes you?
You can go to the authorities and report the rape. I'm afraid I can't help you here.

still, your comment is unrelated to the topic of my artwork/article.

I'm afraid trolls will be blocked.

may the God guide you and correct your thinking

Yes, this does happen a lot! My mother gets asked what the meaning of hijab was and if she was forced to wear it.
Of course my mom disagreed and cleared the misunderstanding.
Once she told me that an old man asked her and she told him about it. He later said that it was probably a good thing, and even commented that his wife should start dressing more modest like my mom

Truth about the women but I wish the countries would allow women to speak against violence . I mean women have been beat and will be arrest but I hope god will not allow more women to suffer. I hope all countries respect women more than they do now. I mean no offend.

To me hijab is a matter between u and god and if you don't want to wear it than that's between u and god but I hate it when people force you to wear it. I'm not muslim but I have many muslim friends.

Oh ! It reminds me of something .

Non-Muslim : How does your prophet marry a child ? ( He means lady Aisha )
Muslim : Oh no . You got it wrong my friend . Lady Aisha wasn't a child . She was grown up physically and mentally by the testimony of the people . It might seem weird to you that a nine years old would be mature . But it's true .
Non-Muslim : How does your prophet marry a child ?
Muslim : Oh God ! Give me strength ! ><

I think the biggest thing about "WAAAUGH! MUHAMMED WAS A PEDOPHILE! HIDE YOUR CHILDREN FROM THE EVIL MUSLIMS! BLBLAB!" is that there is a terrible misunderstanding of time period.

Consider the life people lived during the time of Muhammad. You were lucky to live longer than five years. Girls usually married very young (for our standards). Aisha would have gotten married very quickly; marriages at that time were generally started at thirteen, but nine wasn't unusual either. She would not have been considered a "child", but a "young woman".

I would appreciate if you don't mention the insults others say about Islam and our prophet . You can make the idea reach us without the exact text .

Still though , I'm glad there's someone who can talk without the sh** and f*** terms Those types are useless to speak with .

as 4 the point The terms ("Muslim" and "Arab" are synonymous.) I've never heard of it and i am an Arab Muslim myself. i think also u should mention that "Arab" is a word to refer to the ppl who speak the Arabic language or with Arabic origins.

the word "Muslim" is to refer to the ppl who follow the religion of Islam.

there is a difference between a language and a religion. not all Arabs are Muslims and not all Muslims are Arab.

I love rockin' my 'jab! A compliment in hijab is so much more sincere than without it.
I live in a "non-muslim" country and especially now that it's summer the girls are wearing less and less... then I'm there with my long sleeves and trousers and hijab and they sometimes look at me and giggle. But I hold my head high with confidence because I wear my hijab to please my creator which I feel is a great honor to me, that doing something so simple and modest can bring pleasure to Allah subhanallah wa ta'ala.
