Your drawings really fool my spidey senses when it comes to detecting 3d vs 2d. Really well done!

i feel as though your drawings are clay models. just really have a lot of depth in the design.

Very impressive, painting such subtle occlusion is tough. Looks like you have it nailed.

Love your style hnngh.

Excuse me for asking but what exactly is AO?

TheRealLucieth In reply to JohnDoeHanibari [2016-07-21 18:56:06 +0000 UTC]

AO is ambient occlusion, typically a term used in 3D modeling. It's the understanding of the ambient light from the environment without any "direct" light source per say.
Sam Nielson has a tutorial on it (along with a lot of other artists, but that was my introduction to it in 2d art. "sam nielson painting process" can be found on his blog, but I can't link it right now).

The reason it looks a lot like 3D is because of that approach, some artists have used it as a first step before adding a directional light source.
I don't think it's that easy to explain so excuse me

Wow thanks a lot! I'll definitely look this up! simply searching AO in google is too scary xD
i'll definitely save that blogpost (i found it really quickly!) for future reference! Nurzhan's work is always so brilliantly rendered, it really is like he's sculpting! Thanks again for the super informative reply!!
