Description "Please." the xenos looked up with hopeful violet eyes.
Behind that hope was fear, however. The being that stood before it was no longer the faithful student she loved, but she was down there, somewhere.

She had to be.

"Will you accept my friendship?"

Twilight Sparkle grimaced as a thousand memories came rushing to the forefront of her mind. Memories of the old world. Of Equestria. Of her friends and the love they shared.
For years she'd been haunted by the inability to complete the phrase. She'd forgotten what friendship was. Now she remembered.

She finally opened her eyes and Celestia visibly shuddered under her glare.

"I'm sorry, Princess."

The bolt pistol clicked.

"But friendship is magic..."

--

Am I a heretic for drawing pony/40k? Maybe, but trust me when I say that it's a lot of fun-*BLAM!* This is also fueled heavily by the rule of cool. Should a xenos even be able to touch lovely commissar threads? Probably not, but I think she looks pretty darn awesome in them! If the rule of cool doesn't satisfy you, however, then my condolences. :[

Inspired by this fan-fic .

Twilight's considered a sanctioned psyker by the Imperium, so unicorn "magic" isn't what she's referring to. Oh, and this is probably best viewed on a monitor. It's a tad dark. GRIM-dark! >:]

Oh snap - that's the number three slot in the drawfriend! Thank you, guys! www.equestriadaily.com/2014/08…

i just caught the funniest bit of the whole thing, while everyone else is crying about twilight killing celestia...notice that the bolt pistol "clicked" either twi is out of it, or she's letting her go, cuz bolt guns don't click they're mini rocket launchers, they boom. so good ol'twilight has either lost count of her ammo (meaning that miss obsessive compulsive has lost it) or the plee of friendship might have worked if just barely.

Then what is she refering to? I don't get it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NCMares In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-10-10 01:40:23 +0000 UTC]

The magic of friendship. See, in the (awesome) story that this is loosely inspired by ol' Sparkle is scooped up by the Imperium. They refer to her teleportation/ levitating magic as a psychic ability, which some humans also possess. This is considered heresy and usually results in execution, but some Psykers that are deemed useful become sanctioned. So in this drawing Twilight has believed for decades that she was the sole survivor of her planet. She's been rolling with the Inquisition, which is all about finding and destroying all things heretical. In a sense she's been brainwashed and is in the business of destroying xenos on sight. She's been doing this for so long that she doesn't even consider herself a pony anymore and only knows the grim darkness of the far future. So to encounter another pony after all this time - let alone Celestia - is pretty darn jarring. Magic and witchcraft is the stuff of chaos, and that's not going to fly.

It's dark stuff, but that's why we love 40k.

"so long that she doesn't even consider herself a pony anymore"

I see. She needs a serious reboot of her brain, then. :-S
This Inquisition ... it looks like the worst of the SS and the worst of the Spanish Inquisition combined ... pant-wetting stuff: :-S

"It's dark stuff, but that's why we love 40k. "

Well, some like it. I'm fine with that. But I prefer the happier type of things.
Though, that doesn't prevent me from appreciating the quality of a drawing.

It's not even that! Mankind is so xenophobic that they tend to exterminate species for the crime of simply existing. In the story, however, it was another alien race that destroyed everything Twilight held dear.

What? No way! As a human, I wouldn't think about exterminating a species, as long as this species doesn't try to enslave or eradicate mine.

palguenumber3 In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-10-16 22:33:34 +0000 UTC]

As for the humanity destroying species for existing...we have full right to in the 40K universe, there were some species that killed millions of humans before even realizing we exist, others who they've been dead for millennia before we even came into being, and yet their relics (mistaken for jewelry) transformed a planet's nobility into horrid monsters that were nearly unkillable, and reporduced by laying eggs in freshly murdered corpses. Then there were the Eldar...lying self obsessed bastards that they are they've lead the imperium to go by the rule of thumb, that all xenos are lairs and out only for their own gain. after that add in the truly warlike species of the 40k universe, the warp gods who feed off emotions and death, the swarms of planet devouring nids, the imperialistic weebos.

there is also the fact that she's possibly been branded as a sanctioned xenos (yes it is a thing), more often it happens with rogue traders as they need some sort of xeno among the crew to facilitate negotiations and eventually trade. But it's also happened for inquisitors, and occasional mercs that take up arms for the Astra Militarum (fucking GW changing the Ig's official name) personally i find very few MLP stories on the net worthwhile (as they were written by brownies who think a leg broken in a fight is grimdark) but NC, you've deffinately given me a list of good fics to look up.

They changed 'Imperial Guard' to 'Astra Militarum' because Astra Militarum is a lot easier to copyright than Imperial Guard. Sort of why they're referring to the Space Marines as Adeptus Astartes more often now.

Zalleus In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-10-26 18:40:15 +0000 UTC]

You've got to understand, the 40k setting means it takes place in the 41st millennium. A lot has happened since that time. A technological golden age, as humanity colonized the stars, met with all kinds of alien races, and pushed the boundaries of what was possible with technology. Ironically, this is referred to as "The Dark Age of Technology", though make no mistake, it was a good time to be alive.

Then the space elves fucked up

Their society had become to decadent and hedonistic that they had inadvertently created a god, an evil god made out of excess and debauchery. The backlash of this god-creation caused massive storms in the dimension space ships used to travel across the stars, cutting off transportation between human worlds. What followed was the "Age of Strife", where thousands of human worlds, separated from eachother, either starved because their food sources were on other planets, consumed themselves in war, or were invaded by hostile aliens. This is where most of the alien hate comes from. The only bright side to being alive during this time was that you were likely to die quickly.

Now, the human Imperium has been rebuilt (mostly), though it's foundation resides upon a God Emperor who, while once mighty, now sits on a high-tech life support system on Earth that has kept him alive for 10,000 years. In that 10,000 years the Imperium is dominated by a fanatical religion where their Emperor is worshipped and his word is law, and even the slightest misdemeanor will have you punished for heresy. The Imperium treats HUMANS like shit, aliens have no hope... well, except for Twilight I guess.

Also, keep in mind this isn't Mass Effect or Star Trek, where aliens all speak english and just want to better society. In 40k, you have orks, a green skinned race of savage barbarians who live only to kill anything that isn't an ork (they'll resort to killing eachother if there are no orks though), Tyranids, zerg-like swarms of insectoid drones serving a massive hive mind from another galaxy, Necrons, robotic zombies who wish to cleanse the galaxy of all organic life, and Eldar, the aforementioned space elves who caused the whole mess in the first place.

"invaded by hostile aliens. This is where most of the alien hate comes from."

Wouldn't they realise that not all aliens want them dead? :'-(

I'd say this is a real freaking dystopia, if I were asked.

"The Dark Age of Technology", though make no mistake, it was a good time to be alive."

Good time to be alive ... until a certain era ... :-SS

"even the slightest misdemeanor will have you punished for heresy"

Damn. :-S Let me guess. Heresy is the most commonly invoked "crime" and is always punished by death, isn't it?

"The Imperium treats HUMANS like shit"

A human-led empire ... that treats humans like shit? O_o What the Belgium? O_o

I assume there is a wiki about 40K, right? I'm not sure I like this kind of sci-fi ... :-S

Aren't there some resistance movements against what look pretty much like the Spanish Inquisition combined with Nazism, both at their peak?  :-S

Zalleus In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-10-27 02:04:52 +0000 UTC]

"Wouldn't they realize that not all aliens want them dead? :'-("

No, pretty much all aliens want humans dead, either because they hate humans in particular, they use humans as resources, or they just want to kill stuff. A lot of aliens picked on humans during the Age of Strife, which makes the humans hate the aliens, and the alien persecution makes the aliens hate the humans, so it's pretty much hatred all around, and the few good aliens are given a bad rep by the bad aliens anyway.

"I'd say this is a real freaking dystopia, if I were asked."

Very observant. The Imperium is the dystopia of dystopias.

Damn. :-S Let me guess. Heresy is the most commonly invoked "crime" and is always punished by death, isn't it?

Yeah, pretty much.

"Aren't there some resistance movements against what look pretty much like the Spanish Inquisition combined with Nazism, both at their peak?"

Well, on a small scale each world tends to be relatively autonomous. With the vast distance between any two worlds, and especially between them and Terra, no two worlds are exactly alike, be it culture, technology, politics, or language. Pretty much the only thing that imperial worlds all have in common is that they regularly send resources and soldiers to other planets as part of their taxes and they have a religion that worships the God Emperor (though, depending on what kind of world you're dealing with, this could be anything from cathedrals and priests, shrines and temples, or blood-letting and human sacrifice). As such, any laws governing the world will be different from world to world, though the vast majority are indeed very oppressive and tyrannical.

But it works both ways. If a planetary government is in fact suffering a rebellion from an internal resistance group (that doesn't worship aliens or Chaos) then they're pretty much expected to handle it themselves. The logic behind this is that if the government is suffering a rebellion it's their own fault; partly for treating their citizens so shitty, but mostly for not controlling them enough. And besides, the armies of the Imperium have more important things to do anyway. If the resistance movement is successful, then they're welcome to establish their own regime so long as they continue to send tithes and worship the Emperor.

In my opinion, these new regimes probably become just as, if not more, repressive than the original government eventually. Imperial tithes can be greedy, and real life rebellions frequently work like that anyway.

If you're talking about humans who don't like the Emperor and the Imperium all together, those people tend to be demon-worshiping cultists of Chaos. These people are a) insane, b) dangerous, and c) followers of an even more fanatical and repressive religion that venerates violence, excess, and death as good things.

You're right, the Imperium is indeed a dystopia, but the galaxy of Warhammer 40,000 is such that this heartless, repressive, industrial theocratic dictatorship is STILL a better place to live than any other place in the galaxy. Everywhere else there are aliens who want to kill, enslave, or eat you, and demons who want to kill, enslave, or eat your soul. As oppressive as it is, they have good reasons for it.

But don't take my word for it, this is a good wikia for you to read through. As grimdark as the world is though, let me tell you it is super cool to read about, and there are all kinds of fun games and interesting stories that take place in it.
