Angelfish scene made from pastillage. This is another one that took a lot of air bushing both as individual parts and as a whole. The ida was to make a more elaborate/detailed version of the classic angelfish ice carving. The little sea creatures are made from molding chocolate, and all total, this piece weighed a whopping 60 pounds.Related content

Oh, wow! ^_^ Not only is this a beautifully-executed piece, it's got tons of little details in there. I'll bet this is a fun piece to look at in person.

But what is "pastillage", exactly, and how does it taste?

The thing that I try to do with all of my pieces, and particularly this one, is that you can look at them from every direction. If you walk around it, you'd find all kinds of things in the nook and crannies.
Pastillage is a kind of modeling dough made from powdered sugar, cornstarch, water, and gelatin. After you mold and cut out the shapes you need, you let them air dry. once they are all dry, you can glue them together with royal icing. If you were to eat it, it would taste like a necco wafer. As you can guess, pastillage is very fragile, and as such you need to be very careful during assembly and transportation.

I'm actually interested in welding. I'm a big fan of American Chopper, and I think that it is so cool when they are welding something.

Blacksmithing (as in, with a forge and all that) is high on my list of things I need to learn how to do. Welding is included in that wish; with any luck I can find someone willing to teach me.
