Sweet pic!  The layout of the buildings and the scurry of activity feel very realistic.

Great Sci-Fi Scene! Reminds me of scenes from the "Thunderbirds" show. The clouds are very cool looking too!

I was about to say "hey, those clouds look like...oh wait, he intended that" - never seen anyone else do them before, I did ages ago but I never made anything of it. This technique could be used to make some pretty awesome gas giant scenes

The colony looks very realistic too

Thanks The clouds are several metaclouds with my own material, made some years ago as a result of a thread about lenticular clouds in a Vue forum. If I can figure out how to make it available here, I will. It's already downloadable on Facebook

I would imagine such results would come from making the metacoud material fairly smooth as far as settings go, and then giving them a function that is very stretched along the Z axis (I think that's the right axis, I haven't used Vue in a while now ) the function (as it appears on the sphere) would probably look horizontally banded I bet

Indeed the cloud function is stretched a lot in the z-direction, but it's just a part of the appearance. It's the result of a lot of trial-and-error in the function editor I haven't used it before, because it looks too weird for normal renders, regardless of the real-life basis. Sadly, many Vue'rs won't hesistate to shoot down effects that aren't mainstream "normal" looking...
