Apep was the ancient egyptian spirit of evil and destruction who dwelled in eternal darkness.Stock used: imageafter and stock xchng.

I saw this piece over at TR a while back and I really like the concept, I find mythology very interesting. The colours are nicely done and I think you pulled off the egyption look with the heiroglyphics on the wall excellently. The only small complaint I have is that while the textures are technically done very well I think you should try experimenting with a different look, lots of your work uses the same kind of cracked/rusted texture and it would be good to see you change things up more often.

i saw this one the "todays favs" list and thought "damn.. my devwatch must be broken.. how did i miss that one?" turns out i wasnt watching you.. i couldnt believe it.. but its ok its all fixed now.
as for this peice it is simply brilliant.. i watched the mummy returns for the first time about 2 nights ago and was inspired 2 do a egyptian themed peice.. "apep" was a great idea and it works really well with him hiding in the shadows.. as always your texturing is perfect..

Amazing work !! The skin looks like Egyptian parchment...
like those old and crumbling Dead Sea Scrolls. Perfect
shadow work everywhere.....there is such a great feeling
of depth to this image. And I love how the hand is curled
around that surface that is covered with hieroglyphics (sp?).
They look carved into the surface ( or handpainted onto
some kind of paper ? ). Anyway, favorite. Beautiful colors
.....all faded with time. And that eye !! It is definitely dark
and full of evil. ( I like the placement of the reflection spot ).

The texture on the top of his head feels very flat. IT has too much of a contrast with the rich, almost too big, textures of his hand.
